Abaddon
Abaddon is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
In the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament, Abaddon[a] (lit. "destruction") is a term used for a bottomless pit or abyss closely associated with Sheol (the realm of the dead). In the Book of Revelation, however, Abaddon[b] is identified as an "angel of the bottomless pit", and a Greek-language gloss "Apollyon"[c] (lit. "destroyer") is given for the name. Abaddon/Apollyon is king over locusts that have the faces of humans and the tails of scorpions that, for five months, torment humans without the seal of God on their foreheads.
Design
In its Shin Megami Tensei design, Abaddon appears as a dark green demon with a blob-like body and a massive, gaping mouth. Its eyes are yellow and lack pupils, and its body is dappled with small warts. It has short, reptile-like arms and hands with long fingernails.
In its Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne design, Abaddon appears as a massive demonic head with green-gray skin. It has two white-feathered wings sprouting from the top of its head, and its ears have a wing-like shape. Its eyes are yellow, and it has a very long tongue.
In its Giten Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation design, Abaddon appears as a green, humanoid lizard wearing silver plate armor and a tattered red cape, and wielding a pair of curved swords.

When Aleph and Hiroko are on their way back to Valhalla to meet up with Mekata after the latter was rescued from the Factory, they are stopped in their tracks by Zayin, who hurriedly informs them that Abaddon had just swallowed up Valhalla under orders from the Center. Attempting to enter the district confirms this, as all that is left of it is a black, empty void. If Aleph speaks to Louis Cyphre in the Underground, he say that Abaddon was betrayed by the Elders, and that he is probably in the Makai now.
Much later in the game, when attempting to enter the Beriah Corridor in the Makai, Aleph's party is sucked into a black hole that transports them inside Abaddon's body. Venturing further inside leads them to find the fading remains of Valhalla, which is slowly being absorbed into Abaddon's body, including a dying Madam, who laments on the fate of the district before completely fading away. The Slum is still left intact, however, and entering it leads to Aleph and Hiroko finally reuniting with Mekata, who explains the truth of the Messiah Project, and then hands them the MAG Presser to materialize Abaddon's heart.
At Abaddon's core, he taunts the party, explaining that his body is a dimensional rift with no true form, making it impossible to kill him, a statement proved wrong when Aleph uses the MAG Presser to give him a form and then attacks it. As Abaddon dies, he reveals that Michael had promised him that he would be returned to his form as an angel, and that this was why he listened to the Center's wishes. Aleph's party is then spit back out to the entrance of the Beriah Corridor to continue their journey unimpeded.
Visionaries
Abaddon is featured in one Visionary cutscene in the Game Boy Advance and iOS versions of the game.
"Steel Locust" details the event in which Abaddon was convinced to work with the Center. In it, Abaddon speaks to the red Elder, who brings up how the former used to be an angel before he rebelled against God and became a fallen angel. He asks him if he would like to return to his original form, to which Abaddon answers affirmatively, expressing disgust at his current, ugly form and remembering fondly the pure white wings of when he was an angel. Though he is still hesitant to trust him, Abaddon eventually agrees under the promise that the Elders speak to God about restoring him to an angel.
