Ayato Katsuragi is a character in Giten Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation. He is the main protagonist.

Ayato Katsuragi is a silent protagonist, thus his personality can be dictated by the player's actions.

Ayato's build is dependant of his answers during the Devil Buster enlistment test, and during the story he will also awaken to new types of skills.

Ayato Katsuragi was born in Hatsudai Shelter long after the ICBMs fell in Tokyo. His mother, Misato Katsuragi died when Ayato was at a young age. His father, Hagito Katsuragi was a Devil Buster and dissapeared in battle leaving Ayato alone.

While Ayato was sad and isolated Yoshio Nishino out of respect for Ayato's father decided to take him in into his family.

After doing a enlistment test to apply to the Devil Busters of Hatsudai Shelter he goes to Battle test at the Virtual Dungeon and after a bug rampages at the Virtual Dungeon he and his friends fight the bug and so the game truly starts.

Ayato does the aptitute test in order to be a Devil Buster, depending on the choices made Ayato can pass or not the test. Ayato responds the test and Yuuka Tachibana, one of Ayato's friend went to see him and told him that she passed the exam and asks Ayato if his results came in, he receives a e-mail and his results were this:

  • Scenario 1: He passed the test and is congratulated by Yuuka.
  • Scenario 2: He did not pass the test and Yuuka tells him that is fine that not everyone passes the first time, he also receives a notice that says that due to his performance during the virtual training he'll get a second chance. After helping the Devil Busters during a demon attack at the entrance of the shelter he's accepted as a Devil Buster and is assigned to Nishino's 2nd Unit.
  • Scenario 3: Same as scenario 2 except that if Ayato doesn't help the Devil Busters during the attack Ayato will not become a Devil Buster

A few days later Ayato receives an e-mail from Harajuku Shelter asking for help and he goes to see his friends at the Devil Busters main room, depending on the choices made before Ayato can get or not the chance to go help Harajuku Shelter.

  • Scenario 1: Continuing on the previous scenario where Ayato becomes a Devil Buster, he decides to go and check Harajuku Shelter with his friends and upon leaving the shelter and reaching Harajuku Shelter they see that door is sealed and can't enter. After returning to Hatsudai Shelter Nishino is scolded by Kanetsugu Tachibana, Yuuka's father and then proceeds to scold her too and hits her in the cheek. Ayato quickly goes to her side and tries to comfort her. After that they leave the room and Ayato bumps into a girl who is calling her father and is accompanied by a woman, Yuuka then appears and tells Ayato that that is her sister Miri Tachibana, but that she was born from a different mother. After that saying that she wants to be alone for the day she leaves Ayato.
  • Scenario 2: Ayato decides to stay with Yamase at the shelter to give support, after some silence the two receive a message from Nishino saying that the current state of the shelter is unknown, since electricity has been cut, making it impossible to enter and that something is definitely wrong at Harajuku Shelter, after that Yamase tells Nishino that now they must come back immediately, after that they receive a message from the Administration Center telling the dispatched Devil Buster units to come back and report to the Administration Center, shortly after that Nishino and the others come back and tell Ayato and Yamase that they are free to go.

A few days later Ayato receives an e-mail containing a new program to fight demons and depending on the choices he or someone else can examine the file.

  • Scenario 1: Ayato investigates the file and turns out it was a file called Murmur.bin and upon extracting it he gets posessed by the demon Murmur the Fallen. After this he starts to feel strange and unciously starts to do stuff he can't remember, like sending a file named Aim.bin to Ochanomizu Shelter and starts to isolate himself from the rest of thr group and unconsciously kills someone during this, after he's told this by Yuuka they tell Ayato to follow them and then they set up a Magnetite trap to see if Ayato is being posessed and after they succeed Murmur appears and starts a fight with them.
  • Scenario 2: Ayato asks Hayasaka what could it be and if he could analyze it, he accepts and then some time later he starts to act weird, unciously starts to do stuff he can't remember and starts to isolate himself from the rest of thr group and unconsciously kills someone during this, after Ayato is told this by Emi the very next day they set up a exorcism for him with a Magnetite trap to see if he really is being posessed, after it succeeds the demon Murmur the Fallen appears and starts a fight with them.
  • Scenario 3: Ayato asks Emi what could it be and if she could analyze it, she accepts and then some time later she starts to act weird, unciously starts to do stuff she can't remember and starts to isolate herself from the rest of thr group and unconsciously kills someone during this, after Ayato is told this by Hayasaka the very next day they set up a exorcism for her with a Magnetite trap to see if she really is being posessed, after it succeeds the demon Murmur the Fallen appears and starts a fight with them.
  • Scenario 4: Ayato asks Nishino if he could analyze it, he tells Ayato that it would be better for someone like Emi to analyze it or someone with knowledge in computers. Next Ayato can choose between analyzing the file himself or let Emi do it which leads to scenarios 1 and 3.

After the fight with Murmur the Fallen Murmur spreads out a zombie virus throughout the entire shelter and so Ayato and the rest tries to counter this.

Upon reaching the B7F they group all the citizens into the medical facility and Yamase is tasked to take the citizens to safety while the others take on the demons but upon trying to leave the floor they encounter a zombified version of Miri Tachibana, Yuuka's sister and Yuuka faints, upon taking her to safety Nishino tasks Ayato and Hayasaka to look for supplies and upon completing the task they report to Nishino who then contacts Yamase who tells him everything is okay. After this they rest.

After resting they go to B8F and they find a survivor on it and so they go to the farm of the shelter to take him there, but upon reaching the farm they see that everyone there has been zombified and/or have mutated, Yamase is also nowhere to be seen and after fighting some of the zombies they see that Yoko Nishino and her son Chita have mutated and now are the Mother-Child Fusion Akumajin, after defeating it they receive a message from Kanetsugu Tachibana that there are demons in the Computer Room in B9F and upon reaching the room they see that Kanetsugu is dead, not only that but Murmur was also there and then he takes Yuuka hostage and so he begins a fight, but Ayato and his friends are no match to him, and so Murmur then notices that his guests of honor are here, the demons: Ipos the Fallen, Lamashtu the Femme, Asherah the Lady, Astarte the Tyrant, Abaddon the Koutenshi, Leraje the Koutenshi and Decarabia the Koutenshi who then proceed to violently dismember Yuuka and eat the body parts except for her head. Ayato is perplexed at this and cannot believe what happened and so Murmur before he leaves spreads a poison gas throughout the entire shelter and so Ayato and the rest go to the Anti-Chemical Suits Room at the same floor, but it turns out that there's only 3 suits and Ayato has to choose between using one or not.

  • Scenario 1: Ayato decides to stay in the shelter so Nishino can escape Emi alongside Hayasaka, and so accompanied by Newton he goes to the Computer Room where Yuuka died and Ayato mutters to himself how everything is over and that he feels no fear towards death and that he'll embrace it if makes him feel at eace. Ayato now wakes up in the Yomotsu Hirasaka and upon reaching the entrance to the [[Yomi (Giten Megami Tensei]|Yomi]] he meets the Yomotsu-Shikome who tells him that is not his time yet and he brings him back to life and now wakes up at the Computer Room with Newton at his side. So now Ayato with Newton leave the shelter and find Yamase who then tells him all the truth about what happened at the farm, that he left everyone to die so he could escape, but suddenly a man approaches the party, but Newton sees through his disguise and turns out it was Dantalion the Fallen and tells them to surrender and so a fight begins regardless of what Ayato does. After the fight Dantalion runs away with Yamase.
  • Scenario 2: Ayato decides to take the suit, so Nishino decides to stay. Emi alongside Hayasaka accompany Ayato and with Newton they go to the Computer Room where Yuuka died and download the D.D.C and D.A.S for the Arm Terminals, and after picking up supplies they leave the shelter and find Yamase who then tells him all the truth about what happened at the farm, that he left everyone to die so he could escape, but suddenly a man approaches the party, but Newton sees through his disguise and turns out it was Dantalion the Fallen and tells them to surrender and so a fight begins regardless of what Ayato does. After the fight Dantalion runs away with Yamase.
  • Scenario 3: If Ayato dies when fighting Dantalion he'll wake up in the Yomotsu Hirasaka and upon reaching the entrance to the [[Yomi (Giten Megami Tensei]|Yomi]] he meets the Yomotsu-Shikome who tells that is not his time yet and she brings him back to life, game continues as if Ayato was in Scenario 1.

Suddenly a jeep approaches to Ayato (and his friends if done scenario 2), they introduce themselves as members of Pentagramma, they are a resistance group that is trying to liberate Tokyo, the people in the jeep then introduce themselves as Tetsuya Sonoda and Kouki Kamikawa. They invite Ayato to join the group and so they leave to Pentagramma's Base.

At Bael Castle Rui will reveal that her true form is that of Astarte the Tyrant and will make Ayato choose between her and Yuuka.

Depending on the choice Ayato makes here either Astarte or Ishtar the Megami will join depending on how he replies to Rui's question regarding who he loves, if Yuuka or her. Affinity with this characters also affect.

  • Route 1: Ayato chooses Yuuka and depending on the affinity with Rui different events can happen, in one of them Ayato fights her and on the other she rips out her heart from her body and gives it to Ayato and so Yuuka transforms into Ishtar the Megami, then at the top floor of Bael Castle they find Murmur the Fallen who after a fight is defeated, and then upon entering the main room they find Baal the Tyrant who after asking Ishtar to be his wife to which she refuses he starts a fight. Upon being defeated, Baal asks Ayato to pierce him with his own sword or if he'll be the new King of Tokyo, saying no to either question Baal transforms into a frog and can either die or escape depending on the choices. After that Ayato and Ishtar stand upon the ruined city and Ayato says that his love between him and Ishtar will be eternal.
  • Route 2: Depending on if Ayato chose Yuuka or gets betrayed by her and had a Law alignment he instead will be greeted by angels calling him the new Messiah.
  • Route 3:If Ayato's aligment was Light-Law after doing any route he will grow angelic wings on his back and also be called the new Messiah depending on if he did Route 2.
  • Route 4:If Ayato chooses Rui, this enrages Ishtar and attacks Ayato who after is defeated dies. Upon reaching the top floor of Bael Castle they fight Murmur the Fallen who after a fight is defeated, and then upon entering the main room they find Baal the Tyrant who after asking Astarte where is Ishtar, she responds that she is dead, and now enraged, Baal starts a fight. Upon being defeated, Baal asks Ayato to pierce him with his own sword or if he'll be the new King of Tokyo, saying no to either question Baal transforms into a frog and can either die or escape depending on the choices. After this, Ayato alongside Astarte stand on a pile of demons, now calling themselves the new rulers of Tokyo.
  • Route 5: If Ayato chooses Rui and gets any route related to her and route he on the sky will see Ishtar flying to the moon with a sad face, the beautiful Goddess will await for his next time to reincarnate.
  • Route 6: If Ayato says yes to the questions Baal makes or dies during the fight with him, he will then see everything is now darkness, he sees visions of demons he fought mocking him and then if he decides to struggle he will see a lot of demons praising him as their new King and after that he loses consciousness, and if he chose Rui he will also get Route 5.
  • Route 7: If Ayato chooses Yuuka and has middle affinity with Rui Asuka then she will fuse with Yuuka regardless of who Ayato chooses Rui will fuse with Yuuka. Upon reaching Bael Castle's top floor they fight Murmur the Fallen and after defeating they enter the main room and they find Baal the Tyrant. But Ishtar despite having come along obediently to Ayato her face changed to one some resembling that of Rui and says how dare he betray her and depending on what Ayato says then a fight between Ishtar will begin and after she's defeated Baal will be enraged about losing his wife and so a fight with him begins. After his defeat if Ayato had a Chaos alignment he will be seen at the top of countless demons and he will now pronounce himself as the new ruler of Tokyo.
  • Route 8: If obtained the requirements for Route 7 but had any other alignment that isn't Chaos Ayato will be directed to Route 1.
