Michael
Michael is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Michael is a chief among the archangels venerated in Abrahamic traditions. His name comes from the Hebrew word מִיכָאֵל mîḵāʾēl, transliterated as مِيكَائِيلُ mīkāʾīl in Arabic, meaning "Who is like God?". In Judaism, Michael is believed to serve as a protector of Israel and guardian of the Jewish people.[1] Christianity paints a similar picture of Michael, as in the Book of Revelation, he is the warrior angel who leads the charge against Satan and other adversaries of God, condemning them all to Hell at the conclusion of the War in Heaven. In Islam, Michael (mīkāʾīl) is said to compass God's prestige, generate natural phenomena such as rain, and is credited for purifying the prophet Muhammad's soul before his pilgrimage from Mecca to Jerusalem, and later his ascension to Heaven.
Design
Michael's first design, illustrated by Kazuma Kaneko, appears as a red-skinned humanoid with blue hair and white-and-red wings. He wears golden armor over his torso and a white tunic with gold trim over his lower body. He wears blue bangles on his wrists and ankles, and carries a spear in his right hand. The pose he has in his Shin Megami Tensei artwork and sprite appears to be based off of the sculpture St Michael's Victory over the Devil by Jacob Epstein.
In Shin Megami Tensei IV, Michael is a pale white face with three eyes and a protruding yellow tongue. The head is grasped by two hands, which are attached to an intricate serpentine body embellished with several eyes, claws, and blades. This design was produced by guest artist Keita Amemiya.

Trivia
- There is unused data in Shin Megami Tensei for a non-boss version of Michael.
- In the internal data of Shin Megami Tensei, Michael and Asura's alignments appear to be swapped; Michael has an alignment of 240 (Chaos) and Asura has an alignment of 10 (Law). However, the correct alignments are displayed in A-Mode DDS of the GBA version.
- Michael and Asura's stats and skills are swapped in the Shin Megami Tensei Mega-CD analyze menu;[2] they use their normal stats and skills in gameplay. This may have been done because of the alignments.
