Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

During the rest period given to the strike team in Sector Carina, the Protagonist is approached by a strange girl inside the Red Sprite. The girl remarks how impressive the ship is and says that even the ark that survived the flood could not compare to it, then introduces herself as Louisa Ferre. She comments on humanity's current situation, supposing that it is something they have wrought onto themselves, but suggests that with the Protagonist's power, he could decide which side of the conflict would emerge victorious, asking him if he will end up as a soldier of law or an agent of chaos. Though she wishes to continue speaking with the Protagonist, Louisa notices that he is soon to be called out to duty again, so she excuses herself and disappears.

Louisa Ferre appears to the Protagonist again in Sector Fornax, after he is confronted with the threat of the revived Rosetta demons. There, she explains that the Rosettas have reclaimed their true forms from before they had been cast down by God. She then disappears, promising that she will be watching him.

In the middle of the incursion on Jack's Squad HQ, the Protagonist once again meets Louisa Ferre, who shares her interest in human conflict and admits how entertaining she has found watching the Protagonist's journey to be. She vaguely alludes to the fate his friend is about to meet, and before she leaves, says that it is at moments of adversity when true power is born, figuring that it is for that reason that humans exist.

During the Three Wise Men's presentation of their ideal world at the end of Sector Grus, they are interrupted by Louisa Ferre, who strongly rejects their proposal, claiming that such a "deathly" world can not be said to have any life. She instead proposes that what humanity needs is for the Schwarzwelt to be set loose to create a world reminiscent of primal ancient civilization, where humans polish their souls via fighting and exuberant enjoyment of life, living alongside demons and free gods, becoming part of nature in a cycle of death and birth, and destruction and creation. Louisa claims that it is this way that the days of humans will become beautiful and where their lives will have worth again, and asks the Red Sprite crew to think about what form they wish for their future to take before disappearing.

If the Protagonist is on the Chaos route, he will encounter Louisa Ferre one last time, after he has defeated Mastema. As the angel is dying, Louisa Ferre appears to mock him for his fallen state. Mastema shakily attempts to assert that nothing will change even should she decide to support humans, but Louisa retorts that despite her having no love for humans, she will not abandon them, claiming that is freedom, which she says Mastema has none of, citing that as the reason why God has abandoned him. She continues to mock him as he fades away, and once he disintegrates, she commends the Protagonist for his victory and warns him about the remaining spirit awaiting him, reminding him that she is watching as she disappears.

End of spoilers.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux

In Redux, the first meeting with Louisa Ferre is altered. Whereas originally she disappears after excusing herself, the Redux version of events has her first walk right through the Protagonist, momentarily giving him an enveloped feeling before she disappears.

On any of the New routes, after Demeter has taken the Fruits the Protagonist collected from the Womb of Grief, Louisa Ferre appears to explain the situation and opens the way to the Empyrean Ascent so that the Three Wise Men can be confronted.

On a New Game+ playthrough, Louisa Ferre can be found in the Empyrean Ascent, where as thanks to the Protagonist, she gives him the EX Mission "Offerings from Louisa Ferre", where she has placed four gifts guarded by demons she has employed, asking him to defeat each demon to obtain each of his gifts.

End of spoilers.

Trivia

  • In Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, the homophonous pseudonym "Louisa Ferre" was an original name made up for the English localization of the game. In the original Japanese script she is still referred to as Louis Cyphre.[1]
  • In Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, Louisa Ferre is implied to be Alex's mother, as the woman holding a baby in the hologram emanating from Alex's ring, which is seen in both a cutscene in the fourth sphere of the Womb of Grief, and in the New Neutral ending, is similar-looking in appearance to Louisa Ferre.
