Shin Megami Tensei II is a 1994 role-playing game for the Super Famicom, and the second entry in the Shin Megami Tensei series. It was developed and published by Atlus and released on March 18, 1994. A remake of the game featuring updated graphics and new content was released for the PlayStation in 2002. An expanded version of the PlayStation remaster was released for the Game Boy Advance on September 26, 2003. This version was later ported to iOS on June 12, 2012, featuring the higher quality music from the PlayStation version of the game.

To date, Shin Megami Tensei II has not seen an official release outside of Japan. Aeon Genesis, a translation group, released a fan translation for the Super Famicom version on May 13, 2004.

Trivia

  • According to Kazuma Kaneko, the golden goddess featured at the end of the game's credit was inspired by the series' title Shin Megami Tensei, because the series had not yet featured a reincarnated goddess.[2]
  • There is an urban legend that booting up the Super Famicom version has a 1/65,536 chance of displaying a screen filled with the text すぐにけせ (Turn it off). Kazunari Suzuki clarified that similar screen actually existed in Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II but was removed prior to release.[3] Kazuma Kaneko also mentioned on his Twitter that he had seen it himself,[4][5] and it only shows up in the early production of the Shin Megami Tensei.[6]
  • Kōji Okada claimed that Shin Megami Tensei II does not necessarily follow from the Law ending of Shin Megami Tensei.[7] Kaneko claimed that it follows from any ending of Shin Megami Tensei.[8]
  • Shin Megami Tensei II has a poop joke in the Japanese text.[9]
