Persona Mobile Online is a massively multiplayer online (MMO) mobile game based on the world of Persona 3.[1] It was developed by Groove Box Japan and distributed through the mobile website MegaTen Online,[2] operated by BBMF, initially via NTT Docomo's[a][b] i-mode mobile internet service on March 16, 2009,[4] and later via EZweb, a mobile internet service operated by KDDI’s au brand, on November 5, 2009.[5] The game allows players to create custom avatars and participate in cooperative dungeon-based quests.

The service operates on a subscription-based model, with monthly plans priced at 525 yen and 1,050 yen, granting 500 and 1,000 points respectively.[6] Additional points can be purchased separately and are used to access quests, items, and other in-game content. Points are shared with the related Atlus Web-i mobile website, where they can be used to purchase additional content.

Gameplay

Persona Mobile Online allows players to create a custom avatar and assume the role of a member of a school-based vigilante group.[7] Progression is achieved by accepting and completing quests, which involve exploring dungeons, defeating enemies, and fulfilling specific objectives. Quests are accessed from within the school, while equipment can be purchased and upgraded in town areas. Accepting a quest transports the player to a dungeon environment where objectives must be completed to complete the mission.

A central feature of the game is its emphasis on player interaction. Registered player data appears in-game as avatars, which can be recruited into parties regardless of whether the player is currently active. Forming parties with other players facilitates combat and progression, and is essential for efficiently acquiring Arcana Points. Communication features allow players to exchange messages and items, with messaging conducted through preset templates and supported by a blacklist system.

Each player is assigned one of 22 Arcana, with the initial Arcana determined by the date of birth entered at the start of the game.[8] Progression is tied to the accumulation of Arcana Points, which are used to strengthen Personas. These points are primarily earned by cooperating with other players, particularly those who share the same Arcana. Personas serve as the core of character development, enhancing attributes, granting skills, and providing resistance to enemy attacks. Players can manage, switch, and fuse Personas in the Velvet Room.

The battle system is based on that of Persona 3, incorporating mechanics such as the One More system, which allows players to gain an additional turn by exploiting an enemy’s weakness, and All-Out Attacks, which can be performed when all enemies are knocked down.[9]

The game also features several customization systems, including Weapon Refinement, which uses materials to enhance weapons and armor; Weapon Card Fusion, which allows players to fuse Personas with weapons to grant additional effects; and Accessory Creation, which involves crafting items from collected materials.[10]
