According to Kazuma Kaneko, despite not being involved with the game's development, he created the original concept of Majin Tensei. After the release of Shin Megami Tensei, Kaneko claims to have been influenced by his love of simulation games, and specifically the Daisenryaku series, to create a strategy simulation game within the setting of the Megami Tensei franchise. At this point, the game's working title was Dai Tensei (大転生 daitensei), referencing its main inspiration. However, Kaneko would eventually be moved to the Shin Megami Tensei II team and a separate team would take control of Majin Tensei's development, which turned it into a strategy role-playing game. Due to this, his only contributions to the game afterwards were the designs of the Hero and Heroine, and the artwork for the game's logo.[1]
