A statuette of Zeus wielding his thunderbolt (c. 490-480 BC)
Zeus[a] is the King of the Olympians and chief deity in the Greek pantheon. He is the ruler of the heavens, and he is associated with divine rule, justice, order, protection of households, and the weather.[1]
He is the youngest child of the TitansCronus and Rhea who was swapped with a rock upon birth by his mother to spare him from being eaten by his father, and was raised by nymphs in secrecy. When he was an adult, he made his father vomit up his five elder siblings and went to war with them against the Titans. To aid their cause he and his brothers Poseidon and Hades freed the cyclopes from Tartarus who forged the weapons that they would use as gratitude, bestowing Zeus with the thunderbolt. After 10 years of war with the Titans he is advised by his grandmother Gaea to free the Hecatoncheires from Tartarus, and with their help the Olympians were able to emerge victorious. Zeus took the throne from his father and ruled over the sky, banishing the Titans to Tartarus.
Zeus was identified with many foreign gods, including the Roman god Jupiter, the Egyptian god Ammon, the Syro-Canaanite god Baal Hadad, and the Mesopotamian god Bel Marduk.
Design
In Kyūyaku Megami Tensei Zeus appears as a bearded face in a ball of blue electricity.
Zeus was given a new design by Masayuki Doi for Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux. He appears as a man split in half, with the right side of his body resembling a marble statue of pure white with his face in the style of classic Greek design with a blue lightning bolt splitting out of his arm and out his elbow, and the left side of his body being twisted and bestial, covered in spikes with a large crescent blade coming out of his forearm. This duality was done to reflect how Zeus is depicted both as a noble god and a malicious god in various myths.[2]

Zeus is the leader of the Greek branch of Bethel. His forces participate in the battle in Chiyoda against the Demon King's armies, with him allowing his Hecatoncheires to attack anyone including their allies.[3] He makes an appearance at the Pandemonic Summit between the leaders of the various branches of Bethel, where he taunts the other leaders and expresses frustration at Abdiel and her insistence that the Creator is still alive and ruling. When she tries to establish control over the rival factions, Zeus calls her out and demands she admit the Creator is dead. When Abdiel attempts to kill the Nahobino but is defeated, Zeus along with the other Bethel leaders break off and sets out to find his Knowledge so he can become a Nahobino once again.
As the various factions vie for control of Taito, Zeus takes control of Ueno and sends his forces out while guarding the Key of Benevolence. In order to prevent his rise to power, the angels of Bethel killed Zeus' Knowledge to deprive him of the chance to become a Nahobino.[4] When the Nahobino challenges him for the Key, Zeus once again expresses his frustration at being deprived the chance to become a Nahobino and how he must wait until his Knowledge manifests in another human. When defeated, he is impressed by the Nahobino's power and gives the Key willingly, demanding that he succeed in claiming the Throne so not to embarrass Zeus before retreating.
In Vengeance, as a result of Abdiel and Ichiro Dazai rallying Bethel and the Nahobino not humiliating Abdiel in battle, Bethel's various factions though on the verge of splitting are still united. As a result when the Nahobino, now fused with Tsukuyomi, challenges Odin for the Key of Harmony, Zeus interrupts the two before the battle begins, joining Odin against the Nahobino on behalf of Bethel.[5] When defeated, Zeus admits defeat and retreats while Odin perishes, with the Nahobino obtaining both of the Key of Harmony and the Key of Benevolence.
At Ueno ParkSaturnus, the Roman form of Zeus' father Kronos, appears in Zeus' place looking for his son. While he was reinterpreted as a more benevolent deity, he cannot let go of the desire for revenge he feels towards Zeus for usurping him as Kronos. When The Nahobino defeats Odin and Zeus, Saturnus reveals that Zeus formerly ruled over the Throne of Creation before willingly conceding it to Baal.[6] If Zeus is in the Nahobino's party when Saturnus is defeated, he will appear and lament that his father couldn't let go of his past as Kronos and admits to respecting and trying to emulate his father.[7]
↑"With that in mind, the first thing I wanted to draw was Zeus’s duality. Zeus is a chief god, so the image of justice is strong, but in truth he also had quite the malicious and sleazy side (laughs). I’m going to leave out why that side appeared, but there are various interesting theories, like it being the fault of humans and so on. If anyone is interested in this, please do check it out. So, I tried to adapt these two sides to the descriptions found in legends and figured I should apply the concepts of good and evil to Zeus’s armour. The good side is symbolised by the figure resembling a sculpture with the armour of ‘brightness’ and the kerauno [thunderbolt]. The wicked side is represented by the beast-like figure wearing the armour of ‘fear’ and the adamantium sickle. This is how the Zeus of this form was born, as a sort of final form you can glimpse in battle. By the way, I also subtly emphasised his crotch, since it’s part of who he is" Published by ATLUS. [1]. Hecatoncheires is a monster that was unleashed by Bethel's Greek division, along with the Chimeras. Sent in with no regard to their allies... It's disgraceful!" Shin Megami Tensei V. ↑"Saturnus: I suppose that is good enough. And it seems that Zeus still has no interest in the throne. I heard that he once surrendered the throne to a provincial god called Baal. Ha!" Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Developed by ATLUS.
↑"Zeus: ...... Well, Dad, I guess you still can't forget your past as Kronos, huh? As Saturnus, you were a greater god of fertility than your sister, and the humans loved you. It was all 'cause of your virtue as a god that you managed that. Most gods end up demeaned or trivialized... Not gonna lie, I myself tried to follow your example. Mythology gets rewritten all the time, but I always tried to be a god that was both loved and feared by humans." Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Developed by ATLUS.
