Keraunos[a] is the ancient Greek word for "lightning bolt" and the symbol of Zeus in ancient Greece. In ancient mythology when the Olympian gods freed the elder cyclopes from Tartarus they expressed their gratitude by forging Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades sacred weapons; the trident for Poseidon, the helmet of invisibility for Hades, and the lightning bolt for Zeus. These gifts were used in the battles with the Titans to usurp Cronus with Zeus using the lightning bolt in the final assault on Mount Othrys. The lightning bolt appears in various myths across Greek culture where it is used by Zeus to smite his enemies.
