Origin

The Titans[a] were the divine offspring of the primordial gods in Greek mythology that ruled the world before the Olympian Gods. They claimed power when Cronos, with the guidance of their mother Gaia, usurped and castrated his father Uranus with a sickle and taking his place as ruler. They ruled for a time called the Golden Age until Cronos, who was prophesied to be usurped by his children as he had with his own father, consumed each of his godly children after they were born. This led his wife Rhea to secret away his youngest Zeus and replace him with a rock which was eaten in his stead. When Zeus was of age he forced his father to vomit out his siblings, who became the first Olympians, and waged war against the Titans in the Titanomachy. Ultimately the Titans were defeated and banished to Tartarus with the exception of those that had allied with the Olympians such as Hecate and Prometheus, with the Olympians ruling over the world.

Design

No reason provided.

Titan was designed by Kazuma Kaneko. They are a giant bearded man with purple skin wearing Roman style golden lorica segmentata armour with a kilt made of red fabric and strips of leather. On their head they wear a Greek style Italo-Corinthian helmet with a red plume, which is pulled down to cover Titan's face when he appears as a 3D model.

Game Appearances

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

Titan appears as a minor member of the Divine Powers and a boss. He is sent by the group's leaders to retrieve Ame-no-habakiri from the Fairy Forest before the Hunters can do so, in order to protect Shesha. He brutally attacks the forest because it was "in his way," enraging the protagonists. He is then defeated in battle, and the party retrieves Ame-no-habakiri as part of the plan to slay Shesha.

Nomenclature

Acording to Hesiod, the word Titan derives from the Greek word τιταίνω titaínō ("I strain"), and the Titans were called as such by Uranus because he believed his children would strain in reckless folly and then receive retribution.[1]
