Jack Bros.

Nekomata alongside the other enemies in Jack Bros.

Nekomata, somewhat contradictorily named Tomcat in Jack Bros., appears starting on the 1st floor of Grim Reaper's Cavern, floor 4 overall. She attacks by pouncing at the player, animated by her dramatically increasing speed when the player is within her line of sight.

Pixie says the following on the floor in which she first encountered:

Look out for Tomcat's surprise attacks! She'll attack when you least expect it, so be on your guard! Enemies may have keys also.

Trivia

• The name "Tomcat" in the US release of Jack Bros. contradicts itself, given the name usually implies a male cat. Despite this, she is still referred to with feminine pronouns by Pixie.
• In Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, there is a brand of milk and Shōchū named after her.
• According to Kazuma Kaneko, his favorite of his Nekomata designs is the one from Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers.

Nomenclature

From the Japanese 猫股 or 猫又 Nekomata, meaning "cat again".
