The Velvet Room is a recurring location in the Persona series. As described by its host, Igor, the room is a place that exists "between dream and reality, mind and matter," and that only those who are bound by a contract can enter it. He is assisted by at least one Attendant, which varies by game, though Igor is generally absent in spin-off games.

The Velvet Room is accessible from various locations, serving as a place to fuse Personas and interact with its residents.

In Megami Ibunroku Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the player can deposit Personas from their Stock to be held in the Velvet Room and withdrawn later.

Starting with Persona 3, the player is also able to access the Compendium in the Velvet Room.

Megami Ibunroku Persona

The Velvet Room is a room found in places like the mall, and is accessible by every playable character. The walls have deep blue curtains and the floors have a blue zig zag pattern. Nameless and Belladonna are seen with a piano playing Aria of the Soul. Fusion is performed with the demons used for the fusion physically appearing, a giant tent lowering down onto both of them, commotion happens inside and the tent moves back up to reveal the new Persona.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

Persona 3

The Velvet Room appears as an elevator operation room, which is perpetually rising. Igor sits on a lush blue couch with a rounded table in front of him with a blue table cloth. Standing at his side at all times is the attendant, Elizabeth. Fusion is presented as the two cards magically fusing together in a magical circle.

The guests of the Velvet Room are Makoto Yuki in the main story and Aigis in The Answer.

Following the battle against Nyx Avatar, the voices of Yuki's Social Links gather in the Velvet Room, granting him the power of the Universe. Following this, the elevator finally comes to a stop and the doors open, returning Yuki's consciousness to reality.

Persona 3 Portable

When playing as Kotone Shiomi, Igor asks her what impression she has of the then-unrevealed attendant. If she thinks they are female, the attendant will be Elizabeth, while if they think they are male, the attendant will be Theodore.

Persona 3 Reload

The guest sits in a chair that looks like a harp, greatly resembling Orpheus's own.

When fusing Personas, Igor "shoots" the cards through the guest's head, resulting in a new Persona, though in a Fusion Accident, the cards instead hit them in the head, knocking them over and unceremoniously landing on them.

Persona 4

The Velvet Room appears as a lavish blue limousine that drives through the fog with Margaret as the attendant. This appearance is shaped by the Yu Narukami's anxiety towards the mystery. If one were to turn around and look at the driver's seat, no one would be driving the limo, making one feel more anxious[1]. Fusion is performed as in Persona 3.

Narukami is first summoned to the Velvet Room before the events of the game and prior to entering a contract. Igor introduces the Velvet Room and alludes to a mystery that Narukami will be involved in and that he will soon have a contract that will make him a guest of the room. After arriving in Inaba and awakening Izanagi, Igor summons him again. He gives Narukami the Contractor's Key to signify that he has entered a contract with Igor[2] and allows him to enter the Velvet Room as he pleases. As the murder mystery progresses further in December, Igor summons the protagonist to the Velvet Room yet again, but this time, the limo comes to a stop. He hints that this is a sign to stop and think instead of taking action.

Teddie is transported from reality to the outside of the Velvet Room, within the fog. He later appears in the Velvet Room and speaks with Narukami about his nature as a Shadow, then returns to reality after hearing that Nanako Dojima is alive.

Persona 4 Golden

Margaret senses that Marie's fate is intertwined with Yu Narukami's and allows her into the Velvet Room, giving her a name and her clothing[3]. Occasionally, Narukami can find Marie's poetry lying on the floor of the Velvet Room, much to her embarassment.

If Marie's Social Link was maxed prior to the new year, she will say goodbye to Narukami in his dreams, though Margaret asks if she can try to find her, even if it leads to strife. If he refuses, Marie disappears from everyone's memories. If he accepts, she summons the Investigation Team to the Hollow Forest during the winter.

Persona 5

The Velvet Room appears as a prison with Caroline and Justine as prison guards and Ren Amamiya's clothing changing into a striped prisoner uniform, along with him being cuffed and chained to an iron ball. The Velvet Room's services are performed via various forms of execution: guillotines for Fusion, gallows for strengthening Personas and an electric chair for itemization.

Later, once the Phantom Thieves of Hearts are erased from reality due to Yaldabaoth's influence and the fusion between Mementos and reality, they are transported to the Velvet Room and kept in cells, with Igor ordering his execution for losing the game. Ren rebels against his fate, leading to the twins recovering their true form as Lavenza and "Igor" being revealed to be Yaldabaoth. Once Ren refuses his deal, he leaves the Velvet Room, allowing for the real Igor to break from his seal. Ren gathers the Phantom Thieves, at which point Lavenza explains that Yaldabaoth had invaded the Velvet Room in the past, sealing Igor and tearing Lavenza into two unwitting attendants so he could rig the bet he had made with Igor in his favor by influencing Ren himself. Following this, Ren appears in the Velvet Room in his Phantom Thief attire.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

The Velvet Room retains its same appearance from Persona 4. At the beginning of Arena Ultimax, an unrevealed person is shown visiting the Velvet Room and turning down the contract from Igor and Margaret.

During Episode P4, Marie asks Margaret to pull Yu Narukami into the Velvet Room. There, Margaret explains that someone is trying to merge the TV World with Inaba, and that Marie is keeping the townspeople safe during the P-1 Climax.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

In this game, Igor is not present. Margaret handles Fusion, Elizabeth handles the Nurse's Office, Theodore handles the Workshop, and Marie handles the StreetPass features.

Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth

The Velvet Room appears in the private screening room of the Theater. Caroline and Justine handle Fusion, Margaret handles Sacrifice Fusions, Elizabeth handles Special Screenings, Theodore handles the shop, and Marie handles the StreetPass features.

The private screening room is initially locked, though the door is lockpicked open after Futaba Sakura senses Caroline and Justine behind it. Shortly after, Elizabeth and Theodore appear, the latter having lost Kotone Shiomi after she was transported to the Kamoshidaman movie. Later, once the Investigation Team enters the Theater, Margaret and Marie appear, the former producing medicine for Rise Kujikawa.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night

A visitor, the player, wanders into the Velvet Room in their dreams. It has taken on a new appearance with a couch, stereos, and disco balls. Margaret greets the dreamer and tells them about how the Investigation Team saved the members of Kanamin Kitchen and those had fallen into a coma due to the Love Meets Bonds Festival Website.

The Velvet Room is also used as the dance stage for Margaret and Marie.
