Igor is a recurring character of the Persona series. He is the appointed master of the Velvet Room and with the help of his assistants, assists his guests with completing their journey.

Igor's name is inspired by adaptations of the the Mary Shelley novel Frankenstein, being a literal "servant of Philemon". While never appearing in the novel itself, a character named Igor appears in some adaptations as an assistant of Frankenstein. As such, his assistants are all named after characters in the novel and movie. Igor's design was inspired by the manga of Osamu Tezuka or the movie Young Frankenstein.

In the first two Persona games, Igor would have Nameless, Belladonna, and the Demon Painter in the Velvet Room with him, who also assist the main characters in Persona-related actions. In supplemental media, he is sometimes given the title of "Mindmancer".

In later Persona games, Igor will instead have one or more assistants that will help him, though it is implied in Persona 3 side media that Nameless and Belladonna are still present, explaining why Aria of the Soul still plays in later games.

While Igor will provide assistance with Personas, he will usually be cryptic in his explicit foreshadowing. In Persona 3 and onward, he will usually talk about the current events in metaphors relating to the themes of the game, such as referring to the progress the Investigation Team makes in Persona 4 in the vein of the limousine of the Velvet Room going on an journey and/or having it's destination be "obscured by fog".Persona 3

Igor first appears to the alongside Elizabeth upon sleeping for the first time in the game, stating to the Protagonist that they have signed a contract accepting "all responsibilities for [their] actions", which they realize was the contract the "mysterious boy" told them to sign.

Igor introduces themselves to the player in the same way they did in Persona 3. However, if the player opted to play as the female protagonist, they will ask them what sort of attendant they "see", allowing them to choose between Elizabeth or the female protagonist exclusive character Theodore.

Persona 4

In Persona 4, the protagonist enters a contract with Igor though the details of the contract are unknown. As in the previous game, Igor assists the protagonist in managing and fusing Personas. He is aided by Margaret.

The protagonist first meets Igor in a dream before he arrives in Inaba. Igor explains that the protagonist is in the Velvet Room which is normally a place that can only be entered by those with contracts and hints that the protagonist may soon become such a person. He speaks of an impending disaster and mystery. The protagonist recalls Igor's words when Teddie asks him to solve the murders, and believes this is the mystery that Igor was talking about. After visiting the TV World and battling Shadows on April 15th, Igor summons the protagonist to the Velvet Room while he sleeps. There, Margaret reveals the protagonist has entered a contract through some means, and Igor presents him with the Contract Holder's Key so that he may enter the Velvet Room whenever he wants. The two encourage the protagonist to form Social Links around Inaba to strengthen his Personas.

In December, Igor appears in the protagonist's dreams once more and asks if he will truly be able to solve the mystery. During this dream, the limo temporarily stops. Igor tells the protagonist that the Velvet Room is a reflection of the protagonist himself—perhaps the limo being stopped is a sign that the protagonist needs to think things over?

On March 20th, if the protagonist is able to realize that there is still another culprit who has been orchestrating the events of the past year, Igor will assist the investigation by giving him the Orb of Sight. After defeating Izanami-no-Okami, Igor summons the protagonist to the Velvet Room one last time to congratulate him on being able to uncover the truth, saying that the protagonist's contract has been fulfilled.

Persona 5

An unknown time before the events of Persona 5, the false god Yaldabaoth manages to capture the Velvet Room, Igor, and Lavenza. They corrupt the Velvet Room into a prison and placed it in Mementos, and split Lavenza into Caroline and Justine, the "Twin Wardens". Before being incapacitated, Igor uses his power to create Morgana, but was unable to imbue to them their true purpose.

After Joker fails to defeat the Holy Grail, and fuse Caroline and Justine back into Lavenza, the false "Warden" Igor reveals themselves to be Yaldabaoth, and Igor returns to the Velvet Room. He then explains the rest to the other Phantom Thieves after Joker finds them in the reaches of the Velvet Room's prison, and urges them to go forward to defeat Yaldabaoth, who has merged Mementos with the real world.

After defeating Yaldabaoth and saying their final goodbyes, Igor then reappears and grants Joker the World Arcana to symbolize his success, before him, the Velvet Room, and Lavenza disappear.

Similar to his imposter, Igor does not do any fusions in this game, instead letting Lavenza perform all fusion actions instead.

Persona 5 Royal

In the third semester content, Igor returns after Joker and the Phantom Thieves defeat Cendrillon alongside the reformed Lavenza. Igor says some small phases, while Lavenza explains that the Prison aesthetic returns due to now being trapped in a new plot.

While he is now in the place of Yaldabaoth, Lavenza still perform all fusion actions, like the base game.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

A while before the events of the game proper, an unnamed person is implied to have denied the Velvet Room's contract. Igor then informs them that they must leave if they refuse to be bound by a contract.

• For the 30th anniversary celebration of the Persona series at Sea Paradise, Igor was paired with a bluespine unicorn fish. The Japanese name is tenguhagi, with tengu being a creature commonly depicted with a long nose.
