Profile

Origin

Main section: Baal § Origin

Baal Zephon[a] is an epithet of Baal Hadad meaning "lord of Mount Ṣapon", the place which Baal was believed to rule from.[1]

In the Bible, Baal Zephon appears only as a place name in the Exodus narrative rather than as the name of a deity.[1] It is said that Moses and the Israelites crossed the Sea of Reeds from Pi Hahiroth to Baal Zephon.

Design

Baal Zephon's design in Giten Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation is a man in Egyptian attire holding a whip. The Egyptian theming may be inspired by the term's use in the Exodus narrative.
