For the Order of Demons, see Fiend (Order).
Fiend is a recurring Race of Demons in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
In most installments, Fiends are rare enemies that have a chance of being encountered in specific locations.
In Shin Megami Tensei: Nine, Fiend is a standard demon race containing Alice and demons based off of historical figures, comparable to Hero or Famed.
In games with the species mechanic, Fiend is classified under the Human[a] species, except in Shin Megami Tensei, where it is classified under the God[b] species.

Trivia
- The Fiend race was inspired by the enemy "Murphy's Ghost" from the videogame Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.[1]
- According to Kazuma Kaneko, while the Fiend race generally represents death, this theme is not applicable to the Fiends who cannot be encountered in battle such as Sadhu or Little Lama in Shin Megami Tensei if....[2]
- Fiend is internally considered the same race as Deity in the Super Famicom version of Shin Megami Tensei. This is likely because race names are written in katakana in-game, and both Deity (魔神) and Fiend (魔人) written in katakana are マジン.
