It is identified with the Ame-no-Murakumo sword obtained by the deity Susano-o from the serpent Yamata-no-Orochi. The sword was used by the warrior prince Yamato Takeru and got its current name Kusanagi no Tsurugi after Takeru cut grass with it to escape from a fire.
