Mei is the younger sister of Kazumi Yamada, she's usually sick and lives with her brother on the Odakyu HALC.

Mei is first seen by Ayato Katsuragi when he goes to the Odakyu HALC after hearing rumors of there being strange disappearances on My City during full moons, so Katsuragi, Tetsuya Sonoda and Rui Asuka go to investigate. And once they reach the top floor they meet Mei and her brother Kazumi Yamada, who kicks Katsuragi out of the room after talking for a bit.
When Katsuragi visits the Odakyu HALC during a full moon, he meets Mei again and she tells him that he must escape quickly from the place, or else something bad will happen, and before he escapes a howl is heard.
When Katsuragi visits them on the 2nd full moon night. Mei, scared again, tells him to help her brother and visit them on a night without a full moon, and then she kicks him from the room. Katsuragi sees the same shadow and hear the same howl from before, after that he leaves again.
He visits them again without a full moon and he sees Kazumi in pain over something, he then asks Katsuragi to keep Mei safe until the next New Moon, after that he leaves and visit Kishimojin so Mei can stay there until then by petition of Sonoda.
After Mei started to have seizures and her condition seems to no improve for days, Katsuragi goes to see Kazumi in the next full moon, and after entering the Odakyu HALC he hears a scream from a man in the top floor, so he goes there and saw a werewolf crying in Kazumi’s room, the werewolf attacked Katsuragi after it noticed his presence, after the werewolf is defeated, Mei alongside Rui appeared and Mei said to stop attacking his brother. After that Kazumi tried to attack Katsuragi again, and this time after he’s defeated, he returned to his human form, and Mei rushed to see if he was hurt, so after talking a bit, Rui reveals that he now will be able to control the werewolf form so he can take advantage of it, after that Kazumi says that he will be on a journey with Mei so he can atone for stealing her life and also will train her. After saying that they leave the building.
Katsuragi then meets Kazumi on the Akihabara Station Building and he tells Katsuragi that Mei is now living with Shin Hirasawa at Toyama Shelter.
