Sun

The Sun is a location in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2.

Gameplay

The Sun is the final dungeon of the game. It cannot be exited once entered. It is divided in seven layers. It also contains Small Data Nodes, Restoration Nodes and Large Data Nodes, which behave like Small, Healing and Large Terminals respectively.

The surface has no encounters and a Mad Mart Express. Entering the second layer leads into a battle against Kingu.

The second layer has damaging floors. It is also where the Solar Data of the Pyro Jack who sells Impel Stones and the Karma Ring Creator are. The entrance to the next layer is guarded by Hayagriva.

The third layer has floors that become visible once approached. It is also where Jack Frost is located, who can be fought if his certificate is obtained. The entrance to the next layer is guarded by Camazotz.

The fourth layer has moving platforms. The entrance to the next layer is guarded by Rahu.

The fifth layer has seals which afflict the party once they are crossed. In 1F, it prevents the party from transforming. In 2F, it removes a Press Turn from the party. It is also where Seth is located, the path to which contains the third layer's invisible floors and a seal that periodically deals unblockable damage to the party. After defeating Seth, a moving platform leads to Satan, who can only be fought in the Hard difficulty. The entrance to the next layer is guarded by Ravana.

The sixth layer has one-way teleporters. It is also where Shiva and Vishnu are located. The entrance to 4F is guarded by Meganada. 4F is where Brahman is located.

The Sun is the location where all data circulates, where it becomes known as Solar Data and is eventually radiated into space. Within the Sun is an otherworldly realm with pathways to its depths, where Brahman resides. The massive flow of data causes Solar Noise, whose effects are even apparent in the virtual world of the Junkyard.

Since the end of the 20th century, several maladies began affecting the world, prompting the foundation of the International Environmental Stabilization Comittee. Jenna Angel discovered that it was caused by data being radiated from the Sun. She would later join the Karma Society as their Chief Technical Director and assist with the God Project. Five years prior to the events of Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, Sera accidentally witnessed the murder of Heat O'Brien while communicating with Brahman, inadvertently sending negative emotions to him. Brahman then punished humanity by turning the Sun black and radiating corrupted data to Earth. This had the immediate effect of demonizing several people and creating the Cuvier Syndrome, forcing the survivors to move underground, while those of the Karma Society would develop a dome over Karma City to block the Sun's hazardous effects. Over five years, Jenna Angel studied the Sun's data and used it to create the Atma virus, which she would eventually deploy into the Junkyard.

Later, in the EGG Installation, Serph was wounded by Heat, who pulled them both into the EGG. Serph was presumed dead by those present, causing more negative emotions to be inadvertently sent to the Sun. In turn, the Sun began downloading the Earth itself, which would destroy it entirely within half a day. Sera decides to head to the HAARP Facility to upload her data to the Sun and speak with Brahman directly, to which the remaining Embryon decide to join her. She manages to upload herself and Serph, who are then joined by the data of the remaining Embryon, Jenna Angel, Margot Cuvier, David Gale, Lupa and Jinana, while fusing with each other to form Seraph. Seraph leads the Embryon into the deepest layer of the Sun to talk with Brahman, who demands they fight him. They succeed, which grants Seraph enlightenment and returns the Sun and Earth to normal.
