The Karma Society was the group responsible for the God Project, which led to Brahman's anger towards humanity, the Cuvier Syndrome and diabolization of several individuals at the time of the incident. Following the incident, the Karma Society would take over Karma City as their governing body and the surviving humans that didn't submit to them moved underground, forming the Underground City and the Lokapala.
Following the destruction of the Junkyard, Jenna Angel begins to suspect that Margot Cuvier has some ulterior motive for keeping Sera as she is and begins plotting her betrayal. Cuvier later reveals that she needs Sera for the Nirvana Project, which requires Sera's power to keep order in a society where all humans have Atma to live under the black Sun. Angel convinces a portion of the Karma Soldiers to create a splinter faction whose goal is to create a society based on karma and natural selection, even helping the Embryon find Sera to further her own goals. Although she is initially hunted for treason, she personally kills Cuvier's forces and Cuvier herself after the Sun begins downloading the Earth, allowing her to take over the rest of the Karma Society and begin chasing Sera herself.
A large amount of soldiers die in the Power Plant explosion and at the hands of the Embryon in the Airport. With dwindling forces, Angel is forced to try to bluff the Embryon into surrendering Sera and not taking an airplane to the HAARP Facility. Gale sees through her, giving the Embryon time to get a plane, then reveals that he has some of David Gale's data and memories to Angel. This distresses Angel enough for her to pierce Gale with Harihara's arm, letting herself be pierced by Vayu's in turn, killing them both.
