Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner
The Junkyard is a land governed by the Karma Temple, where each of its constituent Tribes are perpetually at war. The Temple issues commandments to the Tribes, which they follow unquestioningly, the most notable of which being that members of a Tribe must be absolutely loyal to their leader, and that a Tribe that kills another's leader will usurp leadership of the defeated tribe. At the time of the incident at Ground Zero, there are six tribes: the Embryon, the Vanguards, the Maribel, the Solids, the Wolves and the Brutes.
The inhabitants of the Junkyard are initially emotionless humans with diverse hair colors, to the point that black hair like Sera's is considered abnormal. This changes once the Atma virus infects them, as the inhabitants begin to develop emotions and individual personalities.
Notable features of the Junkyard include each of its tribes' bases, the Karma Temple, and seemingly endless rain. As its inhabitants begin to develop emotions and question the nature of the Junkyard, they discover the Samsara Tunnels, which drain the rainwater and guides it towards Sahasrara, where it is recycled to create fully-developed humans, whose data returns to the rain upon death, giving each tribe an effectively endless supply of soldiers.
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2
Roland reveals to the Embryon that the Junkyard was actually the first stage of the Asura Project, a project whose goal was to train effective combat AIs to be implemented into microchips and implanted into soldiers, and that a portion of its inhabitants were derived from humans that died in the real world. Later, a scene of the past shown to Serph further reveals that the Junkyard was originally Sera's creation as an escape from the stress of the God Project, but was usurped by the military for the Asura Project.
