Translation: Wind spirits appearing in Greek mythology. Said to have originally been a goddess from the island of Crete.
Place of origin: Greece Harpy is its English name; in mythology it is called "Harpuia", meaning "one who snatches away" or "one who tears away". Harpies are the children of Thaumas, son of Gaea, and of Electra, daughter of Oceanus, and they are said to appear as the three sisters Aello (gale), Ocypete (swift one), and Celaeno (black cloud). These three are beautiful winged maidens. They are said to be timid, and to detest conflict, but on the other hand they are also said to possess a spiteful and mischievous temperament.

Translation: Its name means "one who snatches away". It id depicted as a greedy, wretched being with a body similar to that of an eagle, the head of a female human, and breasts. However, it was originally a goddess from the island of Crete, where it was represented in the form of a beautiful winged maiden.
