Agni is Heat's Atma in the Digital Devil Saga series.

Design

Agni is a red humanoid with two heads that only have mouths with sharp teeth. His collar, shoulders and thighs are covered with orange spikes, and his hands have claws between the fingers.

Agni appears both as a playable demon and as an enemy immediately prior to the fight against Rahu. The latter fight limits the player's party to only Serph, and it will automatically end once either character falls below 25% HP.

As an ally, Agni is Heat's Atma, which he transforms into at the beginning of battles unless the party is ambushed. He is weak to Ice and resists Fire, unlike his human form which nullifies Expel and receives additional damage from all other attributes. Furthermore, Agni cannot use Heat's grenade launcher, but is capable of using all of his set skills.

Agni's stats have a high focus on Strength and Vitality to the detriment of his Magic. His skills are determined by the Mantra he has mastered, where any of the skills he has learned can be freely added to or removed from his skill set outside of battle. Agni starts with 4 skill slots, gaining 2 at level 10 and another 2 at level 20.

Agni appears again as an ally and as an enemy. He is fought with two Gdon.

The player's party can only be joined by Heat in the Sun, replacing Roland, if the player transferred data from Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner and selected the correct dialogue options across both games. Agni inherits Indra's Mantras and level, but otherwise behaves like in the first game.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner	Although Agni controlled the sun, thunder, and holy fire in the Three Worlds, he was widely known as the god of fire. He was recognized as the brother of Indra, and was also known for his ability to purify. It is said that Agni burns with anger, and also possesses the flame of intelligence. Heat's incarnation of Agni is a hulking two-headed beast aligned with fire.

Agni is Heat's Atma, which he acquires at Ground Zero once the Atma virus is unleashed on the Junkyard. He is noticeably more comfortable with being a demon than Argilla, almost devouring Bat after his first defeat in Manipura and pushing for Argilla to devour Jinana once she is defeated.

Atop Coordinate 136, while Mick the Slug and Bat are holding Sera hostage, they propose for Heat to defect to the Solids under the condition of killing Serph. He initially appears to accept, transforming into Agni and fighting Varna, but he is actually pretending to fight Serph and plans to take Sera back for the Embryon. His plan is interrupted by Sera's escape attempt and powers forcing Mick the Slug to drop her off the roof, though she is caught by Camazotz, then rescued by Cielo as Dyaus.

Heat is forced to transform into Agni immediately prior to fighting Varin Omega due to being struck by his Hunger Wave, but Sera is able to save him from losing himself in time.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2

Heat, having joined the Karma Society under the pretense of keeping Sera safe and having revenge against Serph for Serph Sheffield's actions, fights the Embryon as Agni in the Karma Society Tower, but is forced to flee once he is overpowered.

Later, Heat uses Agni's arm to pierce Serph's body in the EGG Installation. Serph then drags both of them into the EGG, inadvertently saving himself from death, but leaving him unconscious. Heat's Atma is eventually corrupted by the EGG's data, which causes Agni to mutate into Vritra. Once Heat's data ascends to the Sun, he recovers Agni.

Uniquely, Heat O'Brien's data in the EGG Installation shares the ability to transform into Agni with his AI counterpart.

Trivia

• The enemy Agni in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner is programmed to drop 3000 Karma when defeated, even though it is impossible to do so during that fight.
