Argilla is a main and playable character in the Digital Devil Saga series. She is a member of the Embryon, one of the six core Tribes of the Junkyard.

Profile

Argilla is the Embryon's master sniper, and a capable teammate. However, unlike many of her comrades in the Embryon, Argilla is conflicted about using Atma to her advantage. She immediately rejects the idea of devouring her enemies, but realizes it is a necessary evil to protect her comrades, especially Sera[1]. While she is known for her compassion and down-to-earth personality, Argilla is also possessed of a quick wit and sharp tongue. She is always armed with a clever comeback, and tends to clash particularly with Heat in verbal arguments.

In terms of physical appearance, Argilla has long pink hair tied up in two buns on both sides of her head, and matching pink eyes. She has a slender, somewhat lanky build. Her Atma Brand is called the Seismic Wave, depicted as a sharp-toothed, squared hourglass head with harsh, zig-zagging lines that form its forehead, branded onto the left middle of her chest. Her Atma Avatar itself, Prithivi, is a camouflage-patterned creature with two fanged mouths on its upper chest, a sharp point protruding from its head, and two long, dark-red arms that extend into thorned whips.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner

Argilla transforms into Prithivi at the start of every battle, unless the party is ambushed, in which case she may start the battle as a human, and she may also spend a turn switching between forms during battle. Her human form nullifies Expel, takes extra damage from all attacks and wields a rifle, which deals Gun damage to one target. As Prithivi, Argilla instead resists Earth and is weak to Force.

Argilla's stats focus on Magic and Vitality at the detriment of Strength. As with every party member, her skills must be set outside of battle, where any skill from any Mantra that Argilla has mastered can be equipped. She starts with the Protection Mantra mastered and the Earth Spirit Mantra equipped.

Argilla starts with 4 skill slots, gaining an additional 2 slots on level 10 and another 2 on level 20.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2

Argilla behaves the same as in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, with the addition of a Gun weakness common to all humans.

If the player transferred data from the first game, Argilla's initial stats will increase according to how many Mantra she had mastered, up to +5 in each stat. Furthermore, if the player made the correct dialogue choices, she eventually learns Seraph Lore.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner

Argilla is one of the members of the Embryon Tribe. She is one of its more emotional and sympathetic members, making her hesitant to devour others, often leading to disputes and arguments between her and Heat, who holds the belief that acting in sympathy would not be enough to survive the brutal nature of the Junkyard.

During the Embryon's alliance with the Maribel, Argilla forms a bond with their leader, Jinana, after having an emotional conversation when they first met and learning that she also does not like needless killing. Once Jinana loses herself to her hunger, she is reluctant to fight her, and cries for the first time when Jinana is dying in her arms, desperately wishing for her to see Sera so she can control her power. She then slaps Heat once he suggests for Argilla to devour Jinana's corpse.

Argilla grows to hate Bat for betraying Jinana, though she still can't bring herself to kill him herself when she has him restrained, as she doesn't believe it to be right. In the Deserted Ship, her rage at learning that Bat devoured Jinana leads to her getting pinned down by Bat, and she is only saved by the timely intervention of the other Embryon. After the ship is destroyed with Bat inside it, she breaks down in tears as she struggles to find a reason to continue living as a demon.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2

Argilla, shortly after leaving the Junkyard, appears in the real world. She reunites with Serph and Gale in the Occupied Sector, meeting a child named Fred and his friend, who lead them to the Lokapala. After learning that Sera is associated with the Karma Society, she gets angry at Roland for suggesting that their connection is not genuine, nearly causing her to transform, but Gale calms her down. Even after Roland gains Atma to fight alongside the Embryon, she is still initially mistrustful of him.

Argilla is opposed to both Margot Cuvier and Jenna Angel's ideals, which would involve infecting all humans with the Atma virus. Later, she gags after learning that Earth devoured the other Tribhvana for strength.

In the Power Plant, she gains respect for Roland after seeing him use his power to force its gates to open, though Roland still says that she is hard to please. Once Meganada is released upon the Lokapala and Roland fails to fight it alone, she runs to help him blow up the Power Plant. She is still overpowered by Meganada, but buys time for Roland to pull a lever, destroying the Power Plant, Meganada, Roland and herself.

A scene of the past shown to Serph reveals Argilla's original counterpart: a blonde-haired nurse in charge of Sera. She was manipulated by Serph Sheffield into shooting Heat O'Brien, inadvertently leading to the Black Sun. She was then killed by a berserk demonic Sheffield.

Argilla's Solar Data joins the Embryon's in the Sun. Her human counterpart's Solar Data, simply known as Real Argilla, can also be found there, regretting the actions she took while under Sheffield's control.

In the future, there is a child under Fred's care bearing Argilla's name and likeness.
