Cielo is a main and playable character in the Digital Devil Saga series. He is a member of the Embryon.

Profile

Cielo is a cheerful, clownish combatant in the Embryon tribe. When he awakens to his Atma, he becomes significantly more playful and friendly and is described as being upbeat and easygoing. In the English dub, he speaks with a distinctive caricature of a Jamaican accent.

In terms of physical appearance, Cielo has long blue hair tied in thick braids, and matching blue eyes. He is short and a little stocky. His Atma brand is called the Rainbow Arch, depicted as a wispy, cloudlike creature with a single line of jagged teeth, crowned by three round arches that suggest the shape of a rainbow. His Atma Avatar itself, Dyaus, is a winged blue creature with a parrot-like, white head, clawed talon feet, and a rainbow pattern across its elongated thighs.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner

Cielo transforms into Dyaus at the start of every battle, unless the party is ambushed, in which case he may start the battle as a human, and he may also spend a turn switching between forms during battle. His human form wields a submachine gun, which deals Gun damage to random enemies, but cannot use Dyaus's skills.

Cielo's stats are focused on Agility, at the detriment of Strength and Vitality.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner Anthology Comic

Chapter 1 has the Embryon going to Coordinate 136 to awaken Gale's emotions, as he is the last member of the Embryon to not have done so. The Embryon do not know how an amusement park functions, though Cielo finds a headband of mascot ears, which they believe is important. Argilla and Gale both try it on, to no effect. Gale ultimately does show some emotion, though only to Heat, and nobody believes his account of the events.

Chapter 4 has the Embryon going to Coordinate 136 to steal its decorations for Sera's room in Embryon Base 2, as Cielo noticed that she was feeling down. The Embryon work for hours without eating, going hungry, but they are saved by Gale singing Pray. After the Embryon prepare Sera's room, with Cielo having been the one lifting all of the items between floors, she loves it.

Chapter 5 involves the Embryon saving several of their rookies, who had been captured by the enemy, despite Gale saying that risking their veterans is not worth saving only rookies. After the rookies are saved, Serph and Heat begin fighting over their food; Gale does not comprehend the infighting or Cielo's explanation using figures of speech. Schroedinger finds Cielo, who picks up the cat as him and Argilla continue to try to explain their emotions to Gale. Cielo then hands Schroedinger to Gale, who finds the cat warm and soft, giving him an understanding that there are things that can only be felt.

Chapter 6 has Serph spread rumors about Nirvana to raise the Embryon's morale, initially saying that Nirvana is full of women wearing glasses. The rumors are effective on some members, though Cielo later mentions his preference for maids, which is also effective, but starts a series of competing rumors about Nirvana that divide the Embryon. Serph resolves this by having Prithivi wear each group's fixation to scare them into stopping.

Chapter 7 takes place after Mick the Slug's defeat. Serph and Heat feel hunger, so they decide to go hunt, despite Gale's saying that they should go to the Deserted Ship immediately. Cielo decides to keep an eye on them from the sky, and later finds them collapsed on the roof. The other Embryon run up the castle and learn that Serph and Heat had an eating competition that inflicted both of them with Ache. Gale is the only one with a Dis-Ache, though he first angrily lectures the two for delaying their plans.

In chapter 8, Cielo finds Argilla and Gale making a grave for Jinana as proof that she lived. Cielo decides to help, and suggests making graves for every person that fought alongside them. He then initially suggests placing down flowers, though since there are no flowers in the Junkyard, he asks for Sera to sing to put their fallen comrades' souls to rest.

In chapter 9, Cielo watches as Argilla tends to Serph's wounds from his fight against Heat. Cielo tries to be optimistic, though Argilla tells him off for disobeying his order to stay in Muladhara. Serph later leaves the room to take a break, saying that he is fine, though Cielo doesn't believe him and tries to guilt Heat for not pulling his punches, which makes Heat angry. Heat leaves himself to go hunt in Svadhisthana, to which Argilla asks if he only thinks about fighting and eating, but Cielo thinks that Heat should be Serph's opposite to balance things out.

Chapter 10 takes place in the Deserted Ship. Cielo learns that Serph had been Cursed at some point before the mission started, and he didn't resupply on Dis-Curses. The Embryon are attacked, forcing Cielo and Gale to fight without Serph. Cielo then talks with Gale about how Serph has become more friendly, but less reliable since he awakened to his emotions. He is then attacked by Chatterskulls in his human form, forcing Gale and Serph to fight on their own. Serph picks up Cielo on his back and casts Mabufudyne, which Cielo realizes should have been lethal with his Curse, but he survives it, giving Gale the opening to defeat the enemies. Gale deduces that Serph overwrote his Ailment with another, at which point Serph confesses to giving himself Ache with a Muscle Drink. Serph expresses appreciation for his team before offering Cielo a choice between an Odd Morsel and a Moldy Roll for his injuries.

Chapter 12 takes place after Heat forces himself upon Sera, though both deny that anything happened between them and Sera runs in tears. Gale and Serph leave to see a returning recon squad, and Cielo is tasked with preparing the room to use as a war room. Cielo asks for Heat's help to move the rubble with his strength, which leads to Cielo getting hit, though Heat relents after Cielo starts asking questions about what happened with Sera. After the rubble is moved, Cielo calls the job done, which makes Heat angry again. Cielo then inadvertently strikes a nerve by saying that Heat will drive people away if he keeps getting hung up on the little things; Heat transforms and grabs Cielo, but Sera runs in due to the commotion, breaking up the fight. Cielo then has an idea and flies off to get supplies. He returns to an unused room to paint it like the clear sky, which the Embryon have yet to see due to the rain and might make Sera happy. Gale goes to investigate Cielo, but lets him continue after Cielo explains himself. Serph then appears, saying that the Wolves were attacked. He laments that Cielo won't get to finish his work, but, since the other Embryon were listening from a hole in the wall, it wouldn't go to waste. Cielo and Heat get into another scuffle after Heat calls Cielo's work childish, which results in Heat getting his foot stuck in a paint can. Argilla then asks how Cielo could afford the materials, to which he says that he sold some Cells they had around, unaware that they were Gale's stockpile, prompting Gale to immediately demand compensation with Vayu's knife foot. Sera begins giggling due to the situation, which Cielo contemplates before being cornered by Heat and Gale.

Chapter 13 takes place some time after the events of Coordinate 136. Cielo thinks that he is reliable, though he complains to the others that is still on standby when they are going to Svadhisthana. The others point out that many enemies in the area resist Electricity, and that Cielo's weakness to Ailments and low power don't help him. In Muladhara, Cielo goes to Heat's room, using the fact that he talks a lot with Sera to convince Heat to put him in the front lines. Heat agrees, so Cielo tells him that Sera wants to do something fun. Heat then thinks that Sera will love him if they do something fun together, to which he suggests a bag of healing items with side effects as a form of Russian roulette. Heat runs off to find Sera while Cielo tries to stop him, but they find that Serph is making snow for her to play in. This upsets Heat enough for him to start eating his way though his bag, which ends up making him ill, and Argila lets Cielo fill his position while he recovers.

Chapter 14 starts with the Deserted Ship operation. Serph and Heat have an argument about how Sera should be treated, though it is dropped with Heat forgets what his problem with Serph is. Argilla and Sera trade clothes, with Cielo pointing out how tight Sera's clothes are on Argilla and how cute Sera is in Argilla's oversized clothes. Sera asks for everyone to come back safe prior to the operation starting. Later, after the Embryon learn of Heat forcing himself on Sera, Argilla thinks that Heat wanted to eat Sera, calling it his "appetite", which is corroborated by Cielo saying that it looked like Heat was trying to eat Sera, prompting her to run away. Serph has doubts, since he doesn't feel the same with Sera as he does when hunting. Cielo thinks that the Embryon should talk things over to make sure Sera doesn't feel bad, which leads to them calling her back into the room and asking her to eat Serph or Heat. She bites both of their arms, then runs back out, incidentally teaching Cielo and Heat some expressions used at the dinner table.
