Varin Omega is initially granted the ability to use Hunger Wave by Angel after meeting them privately some time after they first summoned the Tribe leaders, where he claims to know who they really are, that he is Colonel Beck and demands to leave the Junkyard. Angel responds that it was Colonel Beck himself who ordered that the Junkyard should be closed, but assists him anyways out of pity.
Varin first uses Hunger Wave against the Wolves, single-handedly defeating most of the Tribe and leaving few survivors. Lupa and some of his Wolves escape, and later contact the Embryon for assistance in infiltrating Ajna through the Samsara Tunnels. The infiltration is successful, but Lupa also falls victim to hunger and the Embryon are forced to defeat him. Once confronted in the Brutes Base, Varin uses Hunger Wave on Heat, but he is saved from losing himself by Sera.
