The Magician is an Arcana in the Persona series. It is the first numbered card in the Major Arcana, numbered I1, following the Fool (which is numbered 0 or unnumbered) and preceding the Priestess.

In tarot, the Magician is the first of the 21 trump cards, which are called "Major Arcana" in esoteric usage. The imagery originates from Italian tarocchi decks, where it was called il Bagatto (probably derived from a word meaning "an unimportant thing" owing to the card's low number). In French, it was called le Bateleur ("the juggler" or "the street performer"). The Magician card typically features a street performer holding a baton and standing behind a table with props for performing tricks. Esotericists interpret the props as representing the four suits of Wands, Cups, Swords, and Coins.
The Rider-Waite-Smith deck depicts the Magician pointing to the sky with his baton in one hand and pointing to the earth with his finger on the other hand; according to Waite, this "shews the descent of grace, virtue and light, drawn from things above and derived to things below". An infinity symbol is above the Magician's head, and an ouroboros is about his waist as a cincture.[1]
Arthur Edward Waite lists the following divinatory meanings in The Pictorial Key to the Tarot: "Skill, diplomacy, address, subtlety; sickness, pain, loss, disaster, snares of enemies; self-confidence, will; the Querent, if male. Reversed: Physician, Magus, mental disease, disgrace, disquiet."[2]
