In Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei, Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II, and Shin Megami Tensei, Rangda is a sprite recolor of her rival Barong.

In Shin Megami Tensei II, Rangda's design is based on costumes representing her used in the Barong dance. Rangda's Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers design furthers this concept by incorporating more details to emphasize her role as a black magician.
