Origin

The sandman is a figure in northern German folklore that causes children to sleep by sprinkling sand in their eyes.

Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen adapted the story of the sandman as Ole Lukøje.

Design

Sandman appears as a humanoid with pointed ears and a head shaped like a crescent moon. He has pointed feet that curl upward and a sack that he carries over his left shoulder.

In Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, Sandman has a gold head, dark brown eyes and a blue body. He also has gold bands on his wrists and ankles. The sack he carries is brown with two red circles on the front. In Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Sandman has a silver head with gold eyes, a red body and silver bands on his wrists and ankles. The sack he carries is beige with two black circles on the front. This is his default appearance throughout the series.
