Forneus is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Forneus is said to be the thirteenth spirit summoned by King Solomon, and of one of the Great Marquises of Hell, appearing in the Ars Goetia section of The Lesser Key of Solomon, with twenty-nine legions of demons under his command. Often depicted as a great sea monster, he would teach men rhetoric and language to men to give them a good name and make them become loved for their intelligence.

Design

In its Shin Megami Tensei design, Forneus appears as a manta ray-like demon. It has a flat, ray-like body with a blue back and a light gray underside. It has yellow, pupilless eyes, and a fanged maw. It has a set of four gills on both sides of its torso. Its tail is tapered, with small ridges leading to a set of small fins near its tip.

In its design revision for the PlayStation release of Shin Megami Tensei, Forneus again appears with a ray-like body, but with several human features. The outline of a human body can now be seen on its back, appearing like the body is beneath its skin. The human head has turquoise eyes and black horns, and wears a small crown. Forneus's back is now dark gray, and has numerous darker spots. In addition, Forneus's ray head now has blue eyes with slit pupils, and its tail is thinner.

He seems to have ruled a sanitary hospital in a certain part of the city, but was defeated by someone who was neither a human nor a demon. His best friend, Decarabia, did not know this, so he has for him in Shibuya forever and ever.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne

Forneus is the demon that took over Shinjuku Medical Center after The Conception. With only one exit to the hospital now, he doesn't permit any of the other demons trapped in there to leave. He swims around the entrance lobby as if it is full of water, and not recognizing the Demi-fiend, he will insult him for trying to get by without paying respect for him. He claims another human got by him before and that he won't let it happen again by using his fins to cut him up.

Upon defeat, Forneus will drop the Magatama Wadatsumi. Later, a Decarabia in Shibuya will lament that his friend Forneus is late.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux

Forneus is the guardian of the Fourth Sphere in the Womb of Grief. He is surprised the Protagonist made it this deep, supposing that he only made it here through luck, and claims he will be the last demon he ever sees. He wishes he could've fought the other human who came through here to avenge Amon, but assumes she's already dead, and chooses to settle with the Protagonist instead.

After being defeated, he claims anymore attacks will kill him and gives the Protagonist the fourth Cosmic Fruit in surrender. He is surprised to see a human with such strength and offers to join the Protagonist's party through being fused. Forneus also drops something else before he leaves, but before the Protagonist can go to pick it up, he is attacked by Alex.
