Each of the Archangels are situated in rooms on the upper floors of the Basilica as leaders of the forces of Law. If the Hero is on the Neutral or Chaos routes, they will be optional bosses with the exception of Michael.
If the Hero is on the Law route, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel will join his party. In order to access the bottom floor of the Basilica to defeat Asura, the Hero must have the Angel Ring, which is acquired by going across Tokyo to Sugamo Prison to have the old man there fuse the three archangels into it.

The Seraphim were originally godly servants of the god Baal until the Creator usurped the Throne of Creation, with the Seraphim being reconstituted as servants of the new ruler.[1] They acted as the leaders of Bethel until the battle of Armageddon in which the Seraphim were defeated by a powerful demon, leading to the deaths of all but Michael, who was sealed away in the Temple of Eternity. After the defeat of the Seraphim, leadership of Bethel falls to Abdiel in their absence.[2] Eventually, Melchizedek begins to doubt Abdiel's competency in leading bethel and seeks to restore Michael in order to rally their remaining forces.[3] To accomplish this, Melchizedek seeks to revive the deceased Seraphim in order to infuse the Angel Ring with their Magatsuhi, granting the ring the power to release Michael's seal.[4] As Melchizedek cannot harm the Seraphim himself,[5] he seeks the assistance of the Nahobino during the subquest "The Holy Ring". Following the resurrection of the Seraphim, they are restored to their original allegiance as servants of Baal and are defeated by the Nahobino. After their defeat, Melchizedek departs to free Michael.

It is the archangels' goal to stop Satan. If the Protagonist agrees to allow Étienne Alphonse Laflèche to join him on his journey early on in the game, the Archangels will appear to him at later points in the game as recruitable allies.
