Armageddon was a battle between the forces of Bethel and the demons of Chaos that occurs prior to the events of Shin Megami Tensei V.

The battle of Armageddon occurred 18 years prior to the events of the game. After Tokyo was consumed by the Netherworld after the Conception, the armies of Chaos led by Lucifer waged war with the forces of Bethel loyal to the Creator across the Netherworld.[1] Many power demons fell on both sides of the conflict, with many that died becoming Demon Statue that lay scattered across Da'at. Among the forces of Bethel, the Archangels were defeated with Gabriel Uriel and Raphael being killed by a powerful demon and Michael being sealed within the Temple of Eternity leaving leadership of the forces of Order to fall to Abdiel.[2] The Japanese branch of Bethel was significantly weakened during the battle, losing many including Susano-o[3]. In order to make up for their depleted power, Bethel Japan mass produced the Proto-fiends to replenish their forces, with the Aogami units acting as their. Only one Aogami survived the battle of Armageddon when they mysteriously vanished after the disappearance of Lucifer. This Aogami eventually appeared when the protagonist was threatened by a group of Daemons.
The conflict ended when Lucifer through unknown means was able to confront the God of Law directly and ultimately kill Him and absorb His Knowledge. The the Creator dead the Condemnation was broken allowing for the Nahobino to appear once again and for Lucifer to ascend to the Empyrean. Lucifer then appeared before Tokyo Tower right as Abdiel was rallying Bethel's remaining forces to declare his victory before he disappeared, with the remaining Aogami until vanishing immediately after. Despite the forces of Chaos being victorious, Abdiel suppressed this information and continued to lead Bethel against the forces of Chaos for eighteen years both to prevent Bethel's fragile alliance from breaking and out of denial that Lucifer was speaking the truth.

Additional information is revealed regarding Armageddon. During the battle, Masakado slaughtered countless of the forces of Chaos diving them to seal him away rather than face him directly.
