Manikins are a humanoid species in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne.
Profile
Manikins are said to be created from the mud waters in Asakusa, their main home,[1] and are led by a Manikin named Futomimi. Many Manikins have physical quirks like twitching and involuntary body movements, and prefer to stay in close proximity with dense populations to survive in the Vortex World, though their existence is plagued by enslavement and torture at the hands of demons such as the Mantra. As they are not human, they cannot form a reason, but place their hopes on doing so, with it being implied they have a reason favoring egalitarianism.[2] It is said they are a quirk of the Vortex World and will inevitably disappear when the new world begins.[citation needed]
Notable Manikin Characters
Gameplay
Manikin enemies may have three different appearances resembling a male, a female, and an overweight male manikin all holding knives, but their stats are exactly the same, with simply their attack patterns changing based on where they are encountered.[3]

Trivia
- In the game, it's mentioned that Manikin cannot form Reason.[4] However, Kazuma Kaneko claimed that they do have Reason; in fact, their very existence is the Reason.[5]
- In the draft, Manikin walked without lifting its feet off the ground, but it was removed following a lore change.[6]
Nomenclature
Manikin is from the Dutch word manneken, meaning "little man." This Dutch word is also the source of the word "mannequin."
According to Shin Megami Tensei: Demons Bible, the Japanese name, Manekata, may come from 真似 mane meaning "imitate" and 形代 katashiro, a type of paper doll used in Shinto rituals.[7]
