Asmodeus, also known as Asmoday, is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Asmodeus[a] comes from the Book of Tobit, a Second Temple-period Jewish writing accepted as scripture by non-Protestant Christians. In this book, Asmodeus is a demon who kills several successive husbands of Sarah, daughter of Raguel, on their wedding night. Asmodeus's name is believed to come from the Zoroastrian Aeshma-daeva.
The demon Asmodeus is also featured in Talmudic and Kabbalistic writings. In the Babylonian Talmud, it is narrated that Solomon used Asmodeus, king of shedim, to help build the Temple. In the Zohar, it is stated that Asmodeus is the offspring of King David and Agrat bat Mahlat.
In the Ars Goetia, a section of The Lesser Key of Solomon, Asmoday or Asmodai is the 32nd of the 72 demons allegedly summoned by King Solomon.
Design
Asmodeus in Shin Megami Tensei IV was designed by guest artist Yasushi Nirasawa. He is depicted as a dragon like man made from blood red bones, primarily skulls, fused and resembling armour. He has a pair of downwards facing horns made from jaw bones and a reptilian tail, and is adorned with metal rings and wears chains as a belt. This design was reused to Aeshma with the red bones being turned white.

Shin Megami Tensei IV
|
One of the 72 demons of the Goetia, he was a cherub before his fall from grace. He has three heads: a bull, a man, and a sheep. His legs are like that of a chicken, his tail is a venemous snake, and his wings are hideous. In his hands he holds a battle flag and a spear, and he rides a dragon, spitting flames from his mouth. If the conjurer approaches him with respect, he will obey and give rings, as well as teach astronomy and geometry. Later literature ties him to the sin of lust.

- Main article: Shadow Kamoshida
Asmodeus appears in Persona 5 as the Shadow of Suguru Kamoshida.
Trivia
- Unique among bosses in Shin Megami Tensei IV, Asmodeus does not nullify the Light element and is merely resistant to it. This makes Asmodeus the only boss in the game who is susceptible to instant kill skills.
- During development of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Asmoday was considered for use as a boss. He would have been of the Tyrant race and be fought in Area 2.[1]
