The Game Boy Advance is a 32-bit sixth generation handheld video game console developed by Nintendo and released March 20, 2001 in Japan, June 11, 2001 in North America, and June 20, 2001 in PAL regions. The GBA was very powerful for a handheld console in its time, being slightly more powerful than the Super Famicom.[citation needed] The GBA was backwards compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.
The original model lacks any sort of illumination for the screen, and it uses AA batteries for power. A front-lit model with a rechargeable battery and clamshell design, the Game Boy Advance SP, was released in 2003.
The first Megami Tensei game released on the platform was Devil Children Light Book and Dark Book on November 15, 2002.
