Origin

Agrat bat Mahlat, meaning "Agrat daughter of Mahlat", is a queen of demons that commands 18,000 messengers of destruction and is the mistress of sorceresses in Jewish mysticism. When her pregnant mother was banished to the desert, Mahlat encountered the demon Igrathiel and mated with him, imbuing the yet to be born Agrat with her demonic nature. However there are other sources that claim that Agrat is the daughter of Lilith. Agrat is also known by the title of "the dancing roof-demon", as she flies through the night on a chariot leading the 18,000 demons under her command.

She is recorded as an angel of sacred prostitution and one of the four consorts of Samael alongside Lilith, Naamah and Eisheth. When she and Lilith attempted to seduce King Solomon, he sealed her and her demons within a lamp and cast it into the Dead Sea. The lamp was later found and unsealed by King David, whom she then bore the demon Asmodeus with.

Design

Agrat bat Mahlat was designed by Masayuki Doi for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. She wears a witch's pointed hat and robe as a reflection of her status as a witch queen, and holds an umbrella both as a magical implement for her power and a status symbol as it was commonly associated with royalty in various cultures. As she is the daughter of Lilith she was given a younger appearance, having a youthful face with red eyes, pointed ears, and short hair. To emphasize her inhumanity the rest of her body, primarily her arms and legs, appears as a combination of bones and a ball jointed doll. As with all members of the Qadištu, she has a pair of angelic black wings.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Agrat: Agrat bat Mahlat. One of the four female demons in the Zohar, a spiritual text of Jewish mystical thought. Her name means "Agrat, daughter of Mahlat": said to be the child of Mahlat, daughter of Ishmael, who had a child with a desert demon named Igrathiel. A queen of demons, she is called "the demon who dances on the roof" and is said to wander the air with a horde of messengers of destruction on Wednesday and Sabbath eve. It is also said that men sometimes begged Agrat for help, seeking for her to share the night with them. Agrat's Shadow: Apparition of the demoness Agrat, summoned by Samael. In Jewish mysticism, the four demons Lilith, Naamah, Eisheth, and Agrat are considered to be Samael's personal companions.
