Fenrir, or the Fenrisúlfr, is a giant wolf in Norse culture and the son of Loki and the giantess Angrboða. Due to Fenrir's prophesied role in Ragnarok and his increased growth in size and power, the Æsir conspired to bind him forever. No chain they made was strong enough to bind Fenrir, so they enlisted the aid of the Dwarf forge men to build one impossible to break. To achieve this, the dwarves used six concepts that existed to create Gleipnir, with the materials used in the bindings construction no longer existing as a result. When the time came to trap Fenrir, the wolf grew wary of their deception and agreed to allow himself to be bound on the condition that one of the gods place their arm in his mouth as a show of good faith. Tyr offered his arm freely and Fenrir was bound, and when the Æsir refused to let him free Fenrir torn of Tyr's arm. Fenrir is prophesied break free of Gleipnir and fight with his father against the Æsir, and in the battle of Ragnarok kill Odin by eating him whole before being killed in turn by Odin's son Víðarr.

Being a recurring demon in the franchise, Fenrir has multiple designs. In Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II, Fenrir is a red-brown anthropomorphic canine who stands on two legs. In Last Bible Special, Fenrir is a blue wolf with a fluffy white mane.
In Shin Megami Tensei, Fenrir is depicted as a blue-grey wolf with gold eyes, mane-like fur on his neck and a long tail. This design is mainly used in older games of the franchise, such as the first two entries of the Majin Tensei series.
In Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Fenrir appears as a black wolf with amber eyes, a gaping mouth and long legs that fade into the ground. Orange flames flare out of his eyes and nostrils. A silver rope with gold horseshoes on each end floats around his body. This design is the primary one used in modern entries of the franchise.
