Another Bible is a 1995 tactical role-playing game for the Game Boy, and the third entry in the Last Bible series. It was developed by Multimedia Intelligence Transfer, published by Atlus, and released on March 4, 1995. Unlike other Last Bible games, whose gameplay are conventional role-playing games, Another Bible is a strategy role-playing game similar to the Majin Tensei series games.

A remaster of the game for mobile phones was developed by Bbmf and published by Atlus, releasing for au mobile phones through the EZweb service on June 18, 2009.[3] This version features significantly updated graphics and simplified gameplay mechanics.[4]

To date, neither version of Another Bible has seen an official release outside of Japan. The Game Boy version received a fan translation by the group Aeon Genesis and was released on April 20, 2002. It is the first Megami Tensei game to receive an English fan translation.

Gameplay

Another Bible is a strategy role-playing game, where the player's units each fight against opposing units on battle stages known as Maps. The player can select up to 10 units to participate in a battle, with the game's main characters Cassiel and Pythia being mandatory participants.

During battles, units each take turns in the order of the highest Speed stat, where they can move a certain range of tiles and select an action before ending their turn. These selections include: Fight, Talk, Magic, Special, Item, Status, Check, and End. Only the Fight, Magic, Special (if useable), Item, and End actions will end a unit's turn after they are performed. Units can fight opposing units or cast Magic on targets that are within targeting range, whereupon the game will transition into a battle screen showing the action and its success. Each Unit also has their own innate Special which can either be used as a skill or imbues a passive effect. The Check action is primarily used to open treasure chests, where items and Macca may be found. Once every unit has acted, the round will end and the player will have the option of saving their game or restarting the Map before proceeding with the next round.

Successful attacks and casted Magic will reward in a small amount of Experience Points to the user, with more Experience Points earned for defeating an enemy. Units will level up upon accumulating enough Experience Points, whereupon they may learn new Magic skills and can allocate points to their main stats. Human units are given 2 points to spend, while Beast units are given 5. Macca is also awarded for defeating enemies.

Battles will end after completing a certain criteria, most often by having Cassiel reach the end of a Map stage. Clearing a Map will also reward with a Clear Bonus, awarding in extra Macca and Experience Points to each living unit. A battle will result in a game over if either Cassiel or Pythia are defeated in battle. Other human units who are defeated become incapacitated and can no longer participate in the battle, nor can they participate in future Maps unless revived with a High Amrita on the unit selection screen. Beasts who are defeated in battle are permanently killed and cannot be revived.

The game's progression is linear in that it will automatically proceed to the next area after clearing a Map, and previous areas cannot be revisited. Between some Map stages, Cassiel may visit towns where he can talk with the townsfolk to gather more information and forward the plot. Towns are also the only place where consumable items and equipment can be bought from Rag's store with Macca. Units may each be equipped with a piece of equipment on the unit selection screen, which will imbue them with certain passive effects in battle.

Additional human units are recruited during various points in the game, such as in towns or speaking with them during Map battles. Some of these characters may be missed when their criteria is not met. Beast units can only be recruited by having Pythia talk to them with her Alluring Words Special, whereupon they will automatically join, provided that the party has not already recruited a Beast of the same Race. When a Beast reaches level 3, it will change into a stronger Beast of the same Race and reset its level to 1.
