Doppelganger is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
The idea of a spirit which takes an identical appearance to a certain person has existed for centuries; the term Doppelgänger originates from German tales, with the name itself meaning "double-goer." Seeing one's doppelgänger is considered to be an omen of one's own demise, with historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Catherine the Great allegedly having seen their own doppelgängers.
Design
In the Megami Tensei franchise, Doppelgangers are often depicted as dark, shadowy humanoid figures with electrical energy surrounding their body. They are also depicted with a wide smile and their eyes either missing or shadowed. In some Megami Tensei games, Doppelgangers take the form of the leading Protagonist, namely in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, and Soul Hackers 2.
Gameplay
Doppelgangers are typically encountered as mid-to-late game Demons that have access to several different types of magic. In most appearances, they resist Physical attacks as well as Gun attacks if applicable. In Soul Hackers 2, however, it is weak against Gun based attacks.
