Dancing With The Happy-Go-Lucky Lions

Shooting Challenge

In the Shooting Challenge, Nagisa must use a rifle to shoot at targets which appear sporadically in order to earn points, in a manner similar to a shooting gallery carnival game. There are ten stages and an endless mode stage, with each stage broken up into waves lasting 30-40 seconds. Nagisa can also enlist the help of accomplices whose abilities can be activated to help him obtain a higher score; these accomplices can be leveled up to improve the effectiveness and reduce the cooldown time of their ability. Stages 1-4 allow the use of just one accomplice, while stages 5-10 and the endless mode stage allow Nagisa to enlist a second accomplice.

Nagisa's rifle deals 1 damage per shot to a hit target, begins with 60 shots of ammo, and will reload 10 ammo every second he does not fire the rifle. However, there is a combo meter which influences Nagisa's final score which will reset to zero if he takes too long to attack a target or misses a target after a brief grace period. Each time the rifle hits a target, the combo will be increased by 1; this is not influenced by damage dealt by accomplices that deal damage as part of their ability or by damage dealt by targets that damage other targets upon defeat. Every 100 points, this combo meter will add 0.50x to the score multiplier when any target is defeated, up to a total of a 3x score multiplier with a combo of 400 hits.

Each stage allows Nagisa to earn a medal based on his score. 0-500 points earns a bronze medal, 501-1000 earns a silver medal, 1001-3000 earns a gold medal, and a score higher than 3000 earns a platinum medal. Certain stages require Nagisa to earn a specific rank of medal on the previous stage in order to unlock.

Boss Battle

In the Boss Battle mode, Wonder and his party must defeat a Nian Shou. For the first five days of the event, this Nian Shou will utilize Curse damage as the Onyx Yearbeast. On the next five days, it will utilize Ice damage as the Larimar Yearbeast, and during the last five days it will utilize Electricity damage as the Amber Yearbeast. Each Nian Shou has four Challenge Stages and a Custom Difficulty stage which utilize battle modifiers. For more information on these modifiers, see the below Battle Effects subsection.

Onyx YearbeastLarimar YearbeastAmber Yearbeast

During Onyx Yearbeast, Nian Shou will summon Suzaku, Genbu, Byakko and Seiryu continuously. These Shadows will have identical properties to the Depraved Shadows found in the Path of Chemdah. Upon defeating one of these Shadows, Wonder's party will gain 250 Spark Powder and that Shadow's Might ability; additionally, Nian Shou will take Almighty damage via Vengeance equal to the damage of damage taken by the defeated Shadow. After 1000 Spark Powder has been accumulated, Banishing Fireworks will activate and inflict Nian Shou with Terror. While inflicted with Terror, Nian Shou will take increased damage and be unable to act. Each Shadow will be re-summoned every other turn at first; however, starting from the second phase, Nian Shou will revive all defeated Shadows at the beginning of every turn.

Each Shadow has the following Might:

  • Suzaku: Increases final damage dealt.
  • Byakko: Increases All-Out Attack power.
  • Genbu: Decreases final damage taken.
  • Seiryu: Increases weakness damage dealt.

During Amber Yearbeast, Nian Shou will summon Phoenix and Kohryu, initially summoning just Phoenix but summoning Kohryu after a few turns. Both will be resummoned at the beginning of the second phase if not present. Until Nian Shou is defeated, it will provide Thunderous Might (increases critical rate by 5%) and Thunder's Protection (decrease critical damage taken by 15%) to its allies each turn. When Nian Shou's allies reach 50% or are defeated, Wonder's party will gain 500 Spark Powder. At 1000 Spark Powder, Banishing Fireworks will be activated, dealing damage to Nian Shou and inflicting it with Terror, preventing it from taking action and increasing its damage received.

Both Phoenix and Kohryu have additional special attributes. When Phoenix's HP reaches a low enough amount for the first time, it will activate Nirvana, restoring 25% of its max HP. It will also grant a stack of Phoenix's Hymn to Nian Shou; at five stacks, it will be converted to Power of Nirvana, allowing Nian Shou to receive the same near-death healing as Phoenix. Similarly, Kohryu will grant Kohryu's Influence to Nian Shou every turn, and at five stacks, it will be converted to True Dragon's Might, increasing final damage dealt by 20%. Additionally, upon defeat, Kohryu will use Collapse, dealing heavy damage to Wonder's party.

Battle Effects

The Boss Battle mode features a selection of modifiers that alter the conditions of the battle, which also increase the Abnormality Level of that battle. Each modifier carries an Abnormality rating associated with its tier: 1 for Stable, 2 for Distressed, and 3 for Berserk. Certain modifiers are toggled on permanently during the four main challenge stages for each variant of Nian Shou; these are not affected by the difficulty level of the battle nor do they change the attack patterns or skills of the event stages. In the Custom Difficulty mode, players are able to toggle each modifier on and off - however, they must be unlocked by clearing the four main challenge stages. Additionally, higher abnormality ratings only possible in Custom Difficulty are required in order to complete certain event goals.

Fireworks Festival

For more information, see Fireworks (Persona 5: The Phantom X).

In the Fireworks Festival portion of the event, Wonder can use Fireworks Shells gained by doing daily tasks to create various fireworks to watch with other characters. Certain characters need to be unlocked by progressing in the story of the main event and viewing a specific chapter. After fireworks are viewed together for the first time with a certain character, certain firework styles can be unlocked. Each firework style can be dyed into three varieties: gold, yellow, and violet. Additionally, for every firework set off, a random upgrade material for Personas, Phantom Idols, Weapons, or Revelation Cards will appear, alongside Konpaku Gems.

Synopsis

Yaoling Li approaches Nagisa Kamisiro to celebrate the Lunar New Year together, with Minami Miyashita tagging along. Along the way, they meet up with Leo Kamiyama and Yumi Shiina, only to discover the festival barren with few attendees and some stalls left completely unattended, leading Lufel to realize that people's desires to celebrate the festival have been stolen. While Nagisa investigates the Metaverse to discover the cause of the stolen desires, the rest of the group work to fill in for event staff whose stolen desires have led to the cancellation of the traditional lion dance. After finding and defeating a Shadow named Nian Shou - the root cause of the stolen desire - in Mementos, Nagisa returns to the real world to assist with the lion dance. The lion dance and festival become a success, and the group returns home with happy memories.

Nomenclature

Simplified Chinese: 太平乐, Traditional Chinese: 太平樂, romanized tàipínglè, literally "supreme peace and joy", refers to the music played during the Chinese lion dance. In Japanese, this term (written 太平楽 in Japanese shinjitai) is also used as an idiom for "happy-go-lucky", which may have influenced the English localization.
