Huang Long, also known as Kohryu, is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Huanglong,[a] or the Yellow Dragon, is a dragon which is said to have appeared before Fubao[b] before she conceived the Yellow Emperor. Additionally, it is said that Huangdi took on this form ascending to Heaven and becoming a Daoist immortal. Under the principle of the Five Elements,[c] Huanglong represents the earth element and midsummer season. Furthermore, it completes the Four Symbols,[d] those being Qing Long, Zhuque, Baihu, Xuanwu, by being the center of the universe.

Huanglong is also associated with the water deity known as the Dragon King.[e] In this regard, Huanglong represents the centre, the end of summer, earth, the dusty yellow sky, and the refinement of gold over 500 years. In this sense, Bailong is associated with Heilong, Qinglong, Chilong, and Bailong.[1] These qualities were eventually adopted into Daoist ritual practice.

In the Bamboo Annals, two Huang Long appeared along the Yellow River to threaten Yu the Great's 大禹 boat during an inspection tour. He scoffed, saying that with the Mandate of Heaven on his side, he had no reason to be concerned about them. The two dragons slinked away.[2]

Design

Huang Long's depiction in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner is a shining golden-colored Chinese dragon with a fiery neck and limbs.[3]
