Origin

The Chimera is a creature from ancient Greek culture stated to live in Lycia in Asia Minor. It breathes fire and has the form of a lion with a goat's head sprouting from its back and a snake's head at the end of its tail. Its name derives from the Ancient Greek χίμαιρα chímaira, "she-goat".

Shin Megami Tensei (A-Mode DDS)	Origin: Greece A compound beast of many parts. It is the daughter of Echidna and Typhon, the god of the hot storm winds. She was originally a winged lion, but later the head of the goat and dragon were added. Her final depiction was a three-headed beast with the tail of a snake. The name "Chimera" is now used as a catch-all term for synthetic beasts.

While in Lycia, the rampaging Chimera was slain by the might hero Bellerophon on his steed the Pegasus. It breathes blazing flames, and its form is that of a lion in the front, a goat in the middle, and a great serpent in the back. However, its most famous form is likely that displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Florence, a bronze statue with the body and head of a lion, the head of a goat sprouting from its shoulder, and a snake for a tail. In addition, the result of throwing together multiple organisms into a single creature is sometimes referred to as a chimera or chimaera.
