Orias is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Orias is the eleventh demon alleged to have been summoned by King Solomon of Israel in the occult book, The Lesser Key of Solomon. It is described as being able to predict a person's future based on their zodiac sign, and can influence people into the favor of the summoner. It is a Great Marquis of Hell, and commands thirty legions of demons.

Design

In Shin Megami Tensei, Orias appears as a blue-skinned humanoid with a lion's head, red plate armor, and a gold trident. He rides atop a blue horse with a white mane. The artwork for this design instead depicts him as having brown skin, wearing a red sash with gold trim, and wielding a staff with two snakes intertwined around it. The Mega-CD version's sprite retains most of these added details, but keeps the blue skin of the original sprite.

In its updated design, Orias is depicted as an anthropomorphic lion with snakes for arms wearing a red jumpsuit and headgear. He rides a blue horse with a grey mane and a snake similar to the ones he has as arms for a back half.

Shin Megami Tensei

Orias is encountered as a boss at the Hospital, initially disguised as the Director to conduct medical experiments on captive patients. He intends on turning all of them into obedient supersoldiers, and when he sees that the Hero and Law Hero haven't undergone the procedure to do this, he attacks them, but is defeated.

Orias first appears in Sector Antlia to ambush the strike team after they use a charge of C4 to destroy a boulder blocking entry to the Blue Jet ship. It then moves further into the ice cave.

It later reappears after the strike team finds Jimenez and the wreckage of the Blue Jet. Commander Gore engages Orias in combat. Thinking he successfully fended the demon off, he lets his guard down. Orias then returns from behind Gore, and mortally wounds him.

After the Protagonist defeats Orias, it drops the Lemegetonite.
