Yukiko Amagi is a character in Persona 4. Yukiko is a second year at Yasogami High School, member of the Investigation Team, and the successor to the Amagi Inn.

Profile

Yukiko Amagi is a second year student at Yasogami High School, and a classmate of the Protagonist. Yukiko also works at the Amagi Inn, a popular tourist attraction for the city of Inaba, which is owned by her family and also doubles as her family home. As Yukiko is the Amagi's only daughter, she is next in line for the position of manager as a family inn traditionally passes from mother to daughter, and much of her time is spent training to take up the role. When talking to those she does not know well, Yukiko is polite and quiet, though she can unintentionally come off as cold or distant. Her personality changes completely when with close friends, however, often louder and more open than she otherwise would be. She is also shown having a deadpan sense of humor.[2][3]

Despite her private nature, Yukiko is well-known around Inaba, though this is seemingly attributed to her status as heir to the one of Inaba's most successful attractions, and her reputation of cold, unapologetic responses to the many[4] dating proposals she receives.[5] Hand in hand with her popularity, and also her being shoved into the spotlight to represent the Amagi Inn on television, Yukiko receives suggestive remarks from men, and she shows hesitancy when having to deal with these.[6] After her time in the TV World, she reacts differently, and even gets physical after misinterpreting Yosuke, while also revealing that she's been subjected to more remarks at the inn following her appearance on television.[7]

Shigenori Soejima, Persona 4's character designer, designed Yukiko in a way that would resemble a "stereotypical Japanese beauty,"[8] putting additional focus into her eyes and eyebrows.[9] Yukiko's bangs were also designed intricately, with Soejima leaving them uneven and parted to prevent her from being "too creepy."[10] Yukiko commonly wears clothing of a red or black color scheme, including at school, where she wears the standard female Yasogami High School uniform with a red cardigan covering the uniform's top. Consistent across almost all outfits is a red hairband. Upon visiting an unnamed city to observe what rural people looked like, Soejima found they all looked like people he would find in Tokyo. Instead, he made the designs of Persona 4 with retro imagery in mind, following the stereotype that "rural = outdated", and Yukiko's hairband is one of these retro design elements.[11] In the TV World, she wears a pair of red glasses with a slim double nose bridge design which were made for her by Teddie.
