All "Change Form" mutations have a small chance of turning the Persona into Poltergeist instead of one of the usual results. This will not occur if Poltergeist is already in stock when the mutation is acquired.

Jack Bros.

Poltergeist alongside the other enemies in Jack Bros.

Poltergeist appears starting on the 6th floor of Temple of Nightmare, floor 14 overall. Unlike other enemies, it flees from the player, but drops a 50 second time boost should it be defeated. They can oftentimes be cornered into a small passageway to make this easier, but at the cost of time in and of itself.

Pixie says the following on the floor in which he is first encountered:

There's a Poltergeist. It's rumored he has something very useful. He's quite quick to run away, so don't lose him!

Nomenclature

Poltergeist is a portmanteau of the German words poltern, meaning "to make noise," and geist, meaning "ghost." Therefore, poltergeist means "noisy ghost."
