Origin

Ogres are a type of man-eating giant humanoid from French literature. The word is first attested in French-language works in the Middle Ages, obtaining its current definition of "man-eating giant" by 1300. Ogres would be popularized in the works of Charles Perrault.

The word ultimately derives from the Roman deity Orcus, and the Italian orco is of the same root, as is the word orc used by J. R. R. Tolkien.

They have hair all over their body and live in mountains and hills, and it is said they occasionally descend to towns in order to kidnap and eat young women. They have a bulky physique and mighty arms. Additionally, they are quite smart, making them very formidable.

Game Appearances

Megami Ibunroku Persona

An Ogre can be found in the alternate St. Hermelin High School's Art Room, terrorizing a student. Reiji defeats it with his Persona in a scripted battle, and will join the party afterwards if the necessary conditions were met.
