Early in the game, Pascal accompanies the party and can be fused with a Demon at the Cathedral of Shadows into a Cerberus. The Super CD-ROM² version contains a unique form of Pascal, dubbed in Megami Tensei Jūnenshi as Great Pascal.[1]
Pascal can join the party but can only be used as fusion material to create Cerberus. In the Mega-CD version of the game, she is given a new Cerberus form, and in the Super CD-ROM² version, events related to alternate Pascal forms were included.
A dog-like demon the Liberators encountered in the Aura Gate. He is said to have been born from a certain legend, and appears unused to our world. Though he was being used as a watchdog by another demon, he was able to break free with the Liberators' help. He is a trusty partner that will resolutely face down any foe. The Liberators started calling him "Lost Name" as he didn't have a name of his own.
Pascal, the Hero's pet dog, can be found at his house, and will simply bark if he tries to talk to her.
After defeating Amanojaku, Pascal will approach the Hero and join him on his travels. She cannot participate in battle and can only be used in fusion with any demon at the Cathedral of Shadows to turn into a Cerberus. Once the party finds the Terminal at the Echo Building, she will lunge at it and be teleported to an unknown location, regardless of whether she was fused into Cerberus or not.
Later in the game, a feral Cerberus guarding the bridge to Tokyo Destinyland is encountered. If Pascal was fused earlier, the Cerberus will turn out to be Pascal, who after being fed the golden apple, will recognize the Hero and eagerly rejoin the party. In the Mega-CD version of the game, she will have an alternate form and be level 63. If Pascal was not fused, the Cerberus will not be Pascal and will not join the party.
In the Super CD-ROM² version of Shin Megami Tensei, alternate forms and events for Pascal were included. If Pascal is fused, she will have unique stats as a level 20 Cerberus and can be reunited with at Camp Ichigaya, now being level 25. If she is not fused before being separated at the Echo Building, she can still be found at Camp Ichigaya and will turn into a level 25 Cerberus if fused. Once the Great Cataclysm occurs, she will be separated from the others once again, but will rejoin at the bridge leading to Tokyo Destinyland with an altered design and be level 55, regardless of when she was fused. If Pascal was never fused into Cerberus, Pascal will appear in an exclusive form with increased stats compared to the common Cerberus and will have the Dog race, resembling her original dog form, and join the party, replacing the generic Cerberus in other versions of the game.
Visionary
Pascal is featured in the two Visionary cutscenes in the Game Boy Advance and iOS versions of the game.
In "Gnawed Ball," which takes place during the Hero's fifth grade, his mother surprises him by adopting Pascal from their neighbor and bringing her home, as she remembered how he had wanted a pet and was hoping that it would cheer him up, to which it does.[2][3]
In "Dog Collar," which takes place sometime after the Great Cataclysm, Pascal as Cerberus attempts to locate the Hero but is discouraged at being unable to find any trace of him, and sadly wonders if he had died in the ICBM attack. A few years later, Pascal comes across Echidna, who, as the mother of Cerberus, demands she serve her. Pascal tries to refuse her and wants to continue searching for the Hero, but Echidna poisons her to erase her memories of him and assigns her to be her gatekeeper, leaving Pascal to feebily cry out for the Hero.
A version of Pascal's Super CD-ROM² Demon form called Lost Name appears in Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2, as a manifestation born from a tale of a boy and his Cerberus.[4]
In the "Azure Demon Dog: Lost Name" event, he wanders an Aura Gate in search of purpose and is the only Demon there unaffected by a mist turning Demons violent. The Liberators meet the demon dog while investigating this Aura Gate, when the dog saves them from an onslaught of Demons. The dog, initially without a name, takes an interest to the group and explains that the god Vishnu has been controlling Demons with the mist. The Liberators decide to call the dog Lost Name, which he happily accepts and decides to help the Liberators as a token of gratitude.
Lost Name leads the Liberators to Vishnu in the heart of the Aura Gate. The Vishnu, however, is not the real deity, but formally a Devil Downloader in life who had died after his Demons failed to protect him and was subsequently reborn in the god's image. He had created Lost Name to be his obedient guard dog, but lost him when the dog grew self-aware. The Liberators and Lost Name easily overpower the deity, revealing him to be no more than a delusional Chatterskull. In an outrage, the Chatterskull attempts to brainwash Lost Name with the mist. However, Lost Name overcomes it by his decision to find his own purpose and strikes back, killing the Chatterskull. The Liberators escape the collapsing Aura Gate, but realize that Lost Name cannot follow them to the outside world without fading away. Lost Name believes it is his destiny to vanish with the Aura Gate and bids the Liberators farewell with the hope of being reborn as their ally.
