Super CD-ROM²

The Super CD-ROM² (pronounced "Super CD-ROM ROM") is a CD add on peripheral for the PC Engine developed by NEC that was released on December 13, 1991 in Japan and in France in 1992. It was not released in other regions though it was available in Europe and North America through the PC Engine Duo/Turbo Duo which combined the PC Engine with Super CD-ROM² in one system.
It replaced the previous CD-ROM² add-on and did not require an interface unit to interact with the system. It featured increased RAM and introduced a new Super CD-ROM² game format. Exclusive games were made for this format that couldn't be played on the original CD-ROM² add-on.
The only Megami Tensei game released on the platform was Shin Megami Tensei on December 25, 1993, which was the only Megami Tensei game released on a NEC console. This version has not received a fan translation.
