Legion is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Legion[a] is a spirit which Jesus exorcised according to the New Testament. In the episode chronicling Legion's encounter with Jesus, Jesus goes to meet a man in Gergesa[b] who was possessed by an unclean spirit. According to Mark 5 and Luke 8, the man was unable to be restrained and had broken shackles and chains with which others had attempted to bind him. When Jesus asked the spirit what its name was, the man replied "my name is Legion, for we are many". According to Mark 5, Luke 8, and Matthew 8, the spirits begged Jesus to not force them to leave the region and instead to let them enter a nearby herd of pigs. When Jesus allowed the spirits to enter the herd of pigs, the herd ran off the nearby bank into the sea and drowned.

Design

Legion's default design, first appearing in Shin Megami Tensei, is that of a floating red mass of heads with stubby tendrils that either reach outwards or connect the heads together. Each head is bald with beady yellow eyes and bulging veins on the forehead. Each face makes an angered or pained expression.

In Last Bible Special, Legion appears as a floating gold mass with tentacles, a single face at the front and a giant eye next to it.

In Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army and Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, Legion appears as a floating pale mass with beady red eyes and skeletal faces.
