Profile

A Tarot de Marseille Hermit card
A Rider-Waite-Smith Hermit card

In tarot, the Hermit is the ninth of the 21 trump cards, which are called "Major Arcana" in esoteric usage. The imagery originates from Italian tarocchi decks. The Hermit card typically features an old man carrying a lantern in one hand and a cane in the other.

Arthur Edward Waite lists the following divinatory meanings in The Pictorial Key to the Tarot: "Prudence, circumspection; also and especially treason, dissimulation, roguery, corruption. Reversed: Concealment, disguise, policy, fear, unreasoned caution."[1]

In Megami Ibunroku Persona, it is equivalent to the Holy race.
