Origin

The Gurulu Raksha is a bird demon in the folklore of the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka, often depicted eating a snake. Its name appears to be a compound ultimately derived from the Sanskrit गरुड Garuḍa and राक्षस rākṣasa.

Shin Megami Tensei (A-Mode DDS)	Origin: Sri Lanka An evil eagle monster from Sri Lankan lore. It is also known as "Gurr Yaksha" and is a demonized form of the holy bird Garuda. Hindu gods are thought of as evil spirits and rakshasa in Sri Lanka.

Said to be an evil spirit. Place of origin: Sri Lanka A demon from Sri Lanka that takes the shape of an eagle, also called "Gurulu Yaksha". It is said to have originally been Garuda, an Indian bird spirit, which was then demonized in Sri Lanka. To the Sinhala people of Sri Lanka, who believe in Buddhism, the Hindu gods worshiped in India were seen, in a sense, as enemies. These gods, which are sacred in India, were made into evil spirits and Rakshasa in Sri Lanka and thus, in India, it came to be thought of as an island inhabited by evil spirits.

Gurulu is the first demon the Gigantic crew see upon their ship crashing in the Schwarzwelt, introduced at the end of Chapter 1. The demon decapitated their captain Aaron before getting eating by a Wendigo as the crew watched in awe.
